Locum Consultant Psychiatrist

Locum Consultant

West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a consultant liaison psychiatrist in a prestigious London teaching hospital. West London NHS Trust is delighted to announce a 0.8 WTE 1-year fixed term post in Charing Cross Hospital.

The PLAN-accredited Hammersmith and Fulham Liaison Psychiatry Service operates in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, serving Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. The post-holder will provide joint leadership to H&FLPS alongside the team’s other two consultants, the multidisciplinary team and manager, clinical lead and director.

Relationships with the acute trust teams are key to the quality of care the team delivers.  The team has pioneered integrated services with the acute trust; including neurosciences, renal and A&E for the high intensity user service (which formed the basis for the North West London HIU service). The post-holder will be encouraged to lead on building and maintaining these relationships through clinical governance, teaching and service innovation.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work collaboratively with the H&FLPS team manager and existing consultant psychiatrists to provide leadership and clinical expertise to the liaison psychiatry team to deliver a responsive and high quality service. The post-holder will be pivotal to the ethos of the team and further integration of the liaison psychiatry service with the acute and mental health trusts’ services.

Training within the team and for acute trust staff is a key priority for the service. The post-holder will be expected to work with the consultants in developing the team’s training program. This is a strategic priority for both trusts, monitored at board level.

The service has an ethos of creating, developing and successfully completing strategically important service developments projects. The post-holder will have ample opportunities to be involved in such projects, particularly those related to out-of-hospital strategies.

Our turnover for 2024-25 is over £500m.

The Trust is rated as ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission. Forensic services are rated as ‘Outstanding’.
