Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic, passionate Allied Health Professional with specific interest in education and development to join the Clinical Education team. This post will support the development of:

-       Practice placements for Allied Health Professions.

-        The Trust AHP Apprenticeship Strategy

-       The Multi- Disciplinary Preceptorship Programme

-       Support Advanced Practice Programmes

The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the Trust wide development of high quality, practice placements for AHP students/apprentices. The post holder will lead on the development of support for students, preceptees, apprentices, mentors, and services. The post holder will work alongside the AHP Leadership Group, Clinical Managers, current and future students and apprentices and their mentors.  

You may be required on occasion to support other members of the Clinical Education team where necessary.

Main duties of the job

· Work with the AHP Lead for Education, Development and Student Experience and the HCSW Development and AHP Apprenticeship Lead to implement local, regional, and national education and development strategies for the AHP pre-registration students, preceptees, apprentices, and unregistered AHPs

· Support the recruitment and retention of AHPs by providing robust development programmes.

· Provide clinical education support Advanced Practice.

· Facilitate the training and development of practice educators and mentors to enable them to support pre-registration students, preceptees and apprentices

· Evaluate the programmes of support pre-registration students and apprentices and provide written reports.

· Support development and delivery of the post graduate multiprofessional preceptorship programme

· Keep up to date with best practice in AHP Practice Education and act as a point of reference and expertise for AHP staff

· Support the recruitment of newly qualified therapists through innovative ways such as the graduate recruitment scheme and support of preceptorship programme.

· Manage high level complex and challenging conversations with professional leaders, educators, students, local and regional partners.

· Practice in accordance with trust standards/policies and statutory requirements.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree-educated Registered AHP with current HCPC registration
  • Practice educator training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Relevant clinical courses/ transferable skills
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Teacher Qualification or equivalent or willingness to work towards
  • Evidence of leadership/management development

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of current recommendations and initiatives for AHP education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft applications (PowerPoint and Excel, Word etc).
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Extensive clinical experience as an AHP
  • Knowledge of the AHP apprenticeships AHP Strategies, NHS England and ICB Priorities
  • Experience of coordinating and managing practice experience placements for learners
  • Current experience of assessing clinical skills
  • Experience of developing training and education programmes
  • Experience of working with staff across a range of disciplines and levels
  • Relevant experience supervising and supporting others.
  • Communicating with, and influencing, a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels of seniority.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of Implementing Policies
  • Evidence of leading and managing change within a complex environment
  • Experience managing high level complex and challenging conversations with professional leaders, educators, students, local and regional partners.
