An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy technician to join our busy and dynamic pharmacy team. The post holder will work as part of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, supporting the clinical trials service in line with standard operating procedures, good clinical practice (GCP) and relevant legislative requirements.
The role requires excellent organisation, time management and interpersonal skills. The post holder will have the opportunity to drive key changes and improvement to the service.
Collaborative work with the pharmacy team and multi-disciplinary teams across the trust and region will be essential in this role.
Main duties of the job
• Support the management of clinical pharmacy services at Whittington Health in conjunction with the Clinical Trials Pharmacist, Cancer Services Pharmacist and other members of the team.
• Be responsible for Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) management, including receipt, dispensing, handing out, returns, temperature excursion reports, and any other activities deemed appropriate by the Clinical Trials Pharmacist.
• Ensure that IMPs for clinical trials are managed according to regulatory requirements.
• Maintain all clinical trials records in line with standard operating procedures, GCP and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Develop and review departmental clinical trial work and standard operating procedures.
• Identify and manage risks associated with the use of IMPs in clinical trials.
• Work with members of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team and Research and Development (R&D) team to review and assess the operational and clinical resource needed to open and run trials.
• Attend site initiation visits, sponsor monitoring visits, and close out visits.
• Support the Aseptic team in the management of Oncology, Haematology and other clinical trials related to their clinical areas.
• Formulate and recover pharmacy charges for clinical trials
• Support gathering and reporting of KPI information for benchmarking and identify any variations or concerns for discussion with Pharmacy Senior Team and R&D Team.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Great Britain or an equivalent EU body
- • Level 3 NVQ (QCF) Diploma Pharmacy Service Skills or SVQ Pharmacy Services.
- • Level 3 National Certificate in Pharmacy Services, or Diploma Pharmaceutical Science or Level 3 knowledge base programme (Or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- • Accredited for final prescription checking, or willing to undertake training for accreditation
- • GCP qualification
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Good written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate with patients and all grades of healthcare staff (verbally and in writing)
- • Prioritisation, excellent time management, the ability to plan and execute long-term projects and maintain multiple projects at once
- • Computer literate and able to demonstrate a good depth of ability to use excel, word programmes
- • Good interpersonal skills
- • Confident & assertive when dealing with other professionals

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience (post qualification) as a qualified Pharmacy Technician to include hospital roles
- • Experience of providing training to pharmacy staff
- • Experience of liaising and interacting with nursing and medical staff and other healthcare professionals
- • Experience of dealing with patients and the public
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of working with clinical trials
- • Good understanding of Good Clinical Practice
- • Experience of being in a Medicines Management role e.g. Assessment of Patients own medicines, drug history taking, medicines reconciliation
- • Knowledge of CMM computer system
- • Previous experience of conducting audit / project work
- • Working knowledge/experience of writing SOPs
- • Understanding of Quality Improvement principles and methodology
