Job overview

As a Domestic you will work within the Facilities team which provides an appropriate environment for patient care.

Duties include general cleaning, deep cleaning and the preparation and presentation of patients’ meals and drinks.

You will be allocated duties from the key tasks listed below and will be expected to demonstrate a flexible attitude to work, to meet the needs of service delivery to the patients within Healthcare premises.

Main duties of the job

·         To be fully trained and compliant you will be required to support and deliver the processes within your area of work

·         Flexibility to work in any area of the hospital as and when required

·         To complete Datix incident forms as and when required

·   To be able to communicate appropriately and professional through- radios, phones and emails

·   Occasional exposure to distressing circumstances or deaths on the ward, which will require discretion and empathy

·      To be fully compliant in all training and updates and manage your own on-line training

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

GENERAL CLEANING DUTIES 

·  Working within allocated areas, including cleaning of toilets and bathrooms on a daily basis

·   Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning of surfaces and mopping of floors to meet the NHS National Standards of Cleanliness 2021

·   Within designated areas the cleaning of beds and in some areas re-making with clean linen

·    To safely manage and collect clinical and non-clinical waste and bagged soiled linen and take it to the designated collection point in accordance with policy and notify supervisor if waste segregation is not in accordance with policy

· To meet NHS National Standards of Cleanliness 2021 audit requirements ensuring remedial action is taken to address any shortfall in standards, fill out and sign off checklists to show that specific areas, such as toilets and bathrooms have been cleaned and in the correct time frame.

·         Deep cleaning of floors and hospital areas throughout the year.

 

WARD MEAL & DRINKS SERVICE 

·         Preparation, service and clearing up of patients’ food and drinks, as required and in compliance with Trust policy and legal requirements. This includes use of a tablet

·         Recording of food wastage at the end of food service

·         Reporting of failure of any food related equipment

·       Serving of beverages to patients, with attention given to the presentation

·       Clearing up after the patient food service

·       Cleaning kitchen and dining room areas, washing crockery, cutlery, etc. and clean all equipment, cupboards, work tops and flooring, linked to the food services

·         Reporting any faults in equipment or building fabric to your supervisor.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Education – Reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
Desirable criteria
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Training provided by the Trust)
  • NVQ Level 1 or Cleaning Experience in a similar
  • Use electronic devices (PC, Tablet) to a proficient standard

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to prioritise and use own initiative, when faced with several cleaning requests
  • Able to order (via tablet) and serve food to patients
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions for example when adhering to cleaning schedules
  • Able to use cleaning equipment, some of which may be of an industrial quality
  • Able to lift and move items and, equipment, to facilitate cleaning or catering jobs, over the whole of the shift
  • Able to electronically order required cleaning stocks to ensure they are ready to be used as needed
  • Able to comply with the Trust hygiene rules relating to such subjects as hand washing, uniforms, jewellery and personal hygiene
  • Able to work well within a team, making sure all tasks are completed within the time given
  • Able to communicate well with colleagues, supervisors, other NHS employees, and patients while respecting their confidentiality
  • Flexible attitude to work, hours and duties
  • Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge on NHS colour Coding
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience as a cleaner
  • Previous NHS experience handling food
