North Central London TB Service is a well established, networked TB service providing world class care to patients and their carers across the five north central London boroughs.
We are a nationally recognised, innovative team of nurse specialists, outreach staff and administrators who work closely with the respiratory and infectious diseases teams at the Whittington, Royal Free London, (Pond Street and North Middlesex sites) and University College London, hospitals.
Based in the outpatient setting, we reach out into the community offering a comprehensive package of care addressing both the health and social care needs of our patients.
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic Network Lead TB Nurse. You will be an innovative, forward thinking, resilient individual who enjoys working with medically and socially complex patients. You will strive to provide an excellent service for patients in an often-challenging environment.
You will possess excellent communication skills to support and advocate for patients who may have difficulty accessing healthcare. You will enjoy managing people, supporting staff and service development.
You will be well supported by the Clinical Team Lead and the wider MDT. A comprehensive induction will be provided and your training and development needs supported where appropriate.
This is a fixed term, part time contract for 18 months working 22.5 hours/week.
Main duties of the job
· Provide specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients with a diagnosis of TB and MDRTB, ensuring assessment and co-ordination of care in liaison with the multi-disciplinary team and other health agencies.
· Provide nursing leadership across NCL TB network by acting as a coach, mentor, role model and supervisor.
· Be an expert nurse with strategic input at regional and national level working in collaboration with UKHSA (regional and national) and NHS England.
· Lead on improving the quality of the service through the development of nursing practice in line with local and national strategy and guidance ensuring a robust, excellent service.
· Lead on improving the patient experience ensuring the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
· Accountable for effective management of all resources needed to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care across the network including measurement of patient outcomes in line with local and national performance measures
· Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally ensuring positive working relationships with partner trusts, local authority, Integrated care boards and primary care and public health colleagues.
· Instigate an established program of nursing research with published outcomes whilst updating own knowledge to promote excellence in clinical practice. .

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Management Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the Clinical Team Leader to manage the TB service as required by the Clinical Team Lead.
- Manage nursing and support staff who provide direct patient care. To ensure that appropriate management systems are in place to provide support and leadership within these areas including:
- Service planning and objective setting
- Effective communication systems including team and departmental briefings.
- Induction, appraisal and identification of training needs for all areas of line management responsibility.
- Model demand and capacity and to plan the service accordingly
- Co-ordinate, implement and monitor Clinical Governance processes working to ensure effective and robust mechanisms are in place. To ensure that the Trust's legal and statutory obligations are fulfilled, including taking the lead on the provision of a healthy and safe environment for staff and patients in areas of responsibility.
- Be responsible for monitoring and investigating incidents and complaints relating to defined clinical areas and departments. Take appropriate action, formulating reports and communicating learning through formal clinical governance structures. To participate with clinical staff, in meetings with patients and or relatives in complex cases to seek clarification and aid resolution.
- Ensure national and London TB performance targets are met.
- Ensure TB services support the surveillance and data input required by national agencies i.e UKHSA
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Exercise a high level of personal professional autonomy.
- Be visible in the clinical area and regularly undertake clinical practice.
- Case manages patients using advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with complex social, physical and psychological problems.
- Initiate and implement changes in clinical practice based on current initiatives and research, but also to provide a ‘leading-edge’ service based on local and national initiatives.
- Champion nurse led services and further develop the provision of nurse led clinics incorporating non-medical prescribing.
- Identify clinical issues within the host sites that reduce quality of care of TB patients. Take the lead in the resolution or ensure appropriate action is taken.

Education/Qualifiactions
Essential criteria
- NMC registration on relevant part of the register
- Relevant post graduate professional qualification in TB, Infection Control or Public Health
- Master’s qualification or relevant master’s level experience in relevant specialist area.
- Non-medical prescriber / Advanced clinical practitioner or willing to work towards.
- Evidence of continued professional development-reviewing current practice and research developments within specialist area and application to clinical practice.
Desirable criteria

Knowledge & Experience

- Recent experience in TB care for a minimum of five years or significant experience in a relevant speciality in a nursing leadership position
- Experience in people management and improving the patient experience
- Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff
- Expert clinical practitioner, ability to work autonomously
- Ability to lead within nursing and multiprofessional. working and across organisation boundaries
- Must be able to disseminate information by publication and presentation to national / international audiences.
- Competent IT skills
- Advanced expert level of knowledge/ clinical assessment skills or willingness to develop these
- Lead the facilitation of change to promote innovative practice & service development showing improved patient outcomes.
- Evidence of continued professional development – reviewing current practice and research developments within specialist area & application to clinical practice
- Demonstrate understanding of the role of the specialist area within the current health
- Robust understanding of all aspects of clinical governance including previous experience of quality issues, audit and risk management.
