Job overview

We are recruiting to a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

You will:

  • Work exclusively in the Paediatric Emergency Department (PED)
  • Have no overnight shift or on call commitment
  • Earn a full salary

Please note, this post may close early if sufficient applications are received.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Emergency Department at The Whittington Hospital is part of the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Centre and prior to Covid 19 would see around 25,000 patients each year making it the busiest PED in South NCL.

There is a dedicated Children’s Ambulatory Unit admitting children requiring care beyond the 4-hour window, and there is a separate Paediatric Day Care Unit co-located with the paediatric ward. The hospital also has a well-established Hospital at Home service with plans to expand this across the sector.

The Paediatric Emergency Department sees children requiring both Emergency and Urgent Care and this post would therefore be an excellent opportunity for applicants wishing to develop skills in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Minor Injuries. There are dedicated PEM Consultants who will provide clinical supervision and support for the applicant to be able to pursue their individual training needs. Both the Paediatric Department and the Emergency Department have well-established excellent teaching programmes and the applicant will be encouraged to engage in relevant training. The Whittington Hospital is also a registered PERUKI site and there will be opportunities to be involved in research in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Working for our organisation

Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff.  We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief.  The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.
