A short description of the role
The respiratory team run a very active TB service and there is a unique opportunity to support the early diagnosis and treatment of this population through a one stop diagnostic pleural service.
This is an ideal post for someone who is interested in pursuing a respiratory training post, or who is looking to develop their portfolio prior to seeking consultant positions. The postholder will also be required to support with ward work and the general medicine on-call rota.

The department also provides regular bronchoscopy service, comprehensive lung function assessment facility and a sleep diagnostic service.
A significant proportion of outpatient clinics are conducted at Shrewsbury Road Health Centre (SRHC), situated a fifteen-minute commute from Newham Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A brief and specific description
of what they will be doing
The postholder will be responsible for supporting and developing the pleural interventions service which meets the needs of our population and drives admission avoidance. Training will be available to help improvement in procedures (Including non-pleural if the post holder is interested) although evidence of basic pleural procedures competence will be a required
Management of inpatient care will be shared with 5 other registrars and will include the management of inpatients including those on acute NIV under the care of the respiratory consultants, chest clinics and respiratory referrals within the hospital.
The postholder will be expected to partake in training, education, governance meetings (including morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings) and diagnostic Lung MDT meeting.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in teaching
- Substantial experience in General Internal Medicine within the NHS
- Experience in Respiratory Medicine within the NHS
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
- Higher Degree i.e MSc, PhD or equivalent
Skills
Essential criteria
- Phlebotomy, Arterial Blood Gas, Pleural procedures, Cannulation
- ALS accreditation
Desirable criteria
- Lumbar puncture
- Level 1 pleural ultrasound accreditation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent knowledge in general and acute internal medicine
- A broad range of knowledge in other relevant disciplines
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge in specialist respiratory medicine

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
