Job overview

The post holder will work as a Specialist CAMHS Mental Health Nurse (Band 7) within the Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT) based in South Bedfordshire – Luton.

The role involves delivering specialist mental health assessments, interventions, and care coordination for adolescents, presenting with complex and high-risk mental health needs, including first-episode psychosis, severe depression, emotional dysregulation, self-harm, and trauma-related difficulties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as a Care Coordinator within the Care Programme Approach (CPA) framework, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) that includes psychiatry, psychology, social work, and occupational therapy.

They will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based care, ensuring the involvement of young people and families throughout the therapeutic process, and will uphold the Trust’s values of We Care, We Respect, We Are Inclusive.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Mental Health Nurse (Part 3/8/13 of the UKCC Register)
Desirable criteria
  • • Mentorship or equivalent teaching qualification/experience
  • • CBT training
  • • Master’s Degree or working towards postgraduate qualification in related CAMHS or specific treatment modality.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive experience working in CAMHS or equivalent setting or able to demonstrate experience of working with young people in crisis
  • • Experience of working in community CAMHS and working with a multi-agency network
  • • Experience of working in a crisis setting
  • • Experience of managing and supervising junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of using CBT
  • • Specialty CAMHS experience (e.g. YOT/Eating Disorders/ Adolescent Inpatient ward/ work in substance abuse)
  • • Issues which impact on care delivery
  • • Knowledge of audit and research

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in young people’s mental health, including mental health risk assessments and therapeutic interventions
  • • Able to assess, hypothesize and prescribe nursing interventions
  • • Advanced skills in particular therapeutic approaches
  • • Proven ability to work with children and young people in distress or through psychiatric emergency
