Job overview

In line with the governments priority to increase access and availability of mental health and well-being support for children and young people, an exciting opportunity for a CAMHS Practitioner has arose to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in Luton.

This provides an opportunity to embed your skill set in the schools and early intervention setting. We expect to attract applicants from diverse professional backgrounds that can deliver evidence-based intervention for pupils aged 5-19, their parents, carers and families. Applicants will also support schools' staff to look after their own well-being, increase their knowledge and skills around mental health and contribute to the development of a whole school's approach.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for developing and disseminating packages of care. The care may include a variety of evidenced based interventions and work with parents and teaching staff on an individual and in a group setting. The post holder works collaboratively with young people and their families incorporating the use of outcome measures within their work. They offer specialist support, consultation and training to staff within the service and other agencies where appropriate. The post holder provides assessment and therapeutic interventions at Tier 2 level. 

The Luton Schools Liaison Team sit at the getting advice/getting help aspect of the Thrive model and are supported by specialist CAMHS. The post holder is responsible for supporting the development of  the teams and embedding its services within educational settings. The post holder will hold a caseload and undertakes the role of lead professional for children/young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in educational settings. They work as an autonomous and accountable practitioner. This involves the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care for the child or young person.

Candidates will play a key role as members of the Luton CAMHS Schools Liaison Team (CSLT)), who will have the responsibility for delivering schools overarching approach to providing mental health and well-being support for children and young people.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential criteria
  • • Qualification in appropriate mental health profession such as Nursing, Child Psychotherapies Counselling, Art Psychotherapy, Social Work, Family Therapy (two years with diploma), Occupational Therapy, or Experienced EMHP/CWPs
  • • Registration with relevant UK governing body.
Desirable criteria
  • • Parenting qualification and parenting supervision qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of working with a wide range of mental health problems
  • • Experience of care planning
  • • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary way
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous experience of working in CAMHS
  • • Experience of working in a culturally diverse inner city area

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of well-developed clinical skills relevant to CAMHS
  • • Specialist clinical skills within in specific therapeutic modalities
  • • Able to manage own time and caseload
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • • Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries
  • • Keyboard/computer skills
Desirable criteria
