Job overview
This is a developmental role via the Podiatry (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship standard. You will work towards successful completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Allied Health Professional AHP Podiatrist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a Podiatrist through your apprenticeship within the service as well as through completion of the Podiatry Apprenticeship training programme. This includes working in clinic and community care settings, and delivery of direct person-centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a Podiatry Apprentice, where your role will reflect your learning

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Podiatry Apprenticeship Programme combines and integrates academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. You can expect to spend 60% of your time learning on the job and 40% of your time learning off the job. As a Podiatry Apprentice you will be based as an employee within East London Foundation Trust, working in a variety of clinical settings. This will enable you to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts, which will enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme.
On successful completion of the programme you will be equipped with the appropriate knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours to ensure competence at the point of qualification. You will have the capability to continue to meet Health and Care Professions Council regulatory standards and the College of Podiatry professional standards throughout your professional career.
The academic part of the training will be provided by the University of East London (UEL)

Essential criteria
- Grade C in GCSE English and Maths
- Evidence of recent academic achievement within the last 5 years
- Able to convey tasks and actions to colleagues and service users.
- Fine motor dexterity which will become more advanced throughout the apprenticeship to enable use of fine instruments in podiatry treatment
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working within health/care setting
- Able to convey tasks and actions
- Qualifications and Credit Framework Level 3 in Care or equivalent in terms of both academic attainment and previous care experience
- 120 UCAS points / A Levels with a science background

- Ability to develop skills needed to provide direct care patient, with frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions. (ulcer debridement, tissue breakdown and body fluids, dusts and adhesives
Desirable criteria
- Sufficient keyboard skills for data input and letter writing and ability to use MS office or similar internet and email

- Ability to develop & maintain positive working relationships with professionals and non-professional colleagues & clients
- Insight into how to reflect and evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, confident and articulate
- Ability to plan, organise and co-ordinate work under own initiative, be flexible and prioritise competing demands for attention to provide best care available to patients in case which may involve changing plans where necessary
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of the scope of the role of the Podiatrist and Podiatry assistant in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
