Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry 10 PAs
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join our specialist CAMHS team in Milton Keynes. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high quality care to young people. We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic individual to join a forward-thinking, innovative service that meets the needs of young people today.
You will work within a large, committed team (over 50 staff) who pride themselves on a strong multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and deliver a high standard of care, with positive feedback and compliments received on a regular basis.
Milton Keynes CAMHS also has an innovative Liaison and Intensive Support Team (LIST) based in A&E 24 hours per day, which works closely with the adult Mental Health Hospital Liaison Team. You will be able gain expertise in a wide range of clinical conditions that present to Milton Keynes CAMHS, working with the team to provide NICE recommended interventions/ treatments to the children and young people of the community, and providing clinical supervision to specialty doctors and the team’s non-medical prescribers.
The CAMHS teams are located together on one site within the Milton Keynes Hospital Campus and in close proximity to the adult mental health teams and the CNWL-MK Headquarters. There is a large faculty of medical consultants across mental health and a comprehensive program of professional development to which you will have access.
Main duties of the job
- To carry out clinical duties associated with the provision of a psychiatric service to young people and adolescents who present with a variety of mental health presentations.
- To take responsibility for assessment, diagnosis, treatment and continuing care planning in conjunction with other team members where appropriate.
- To be an active part of the MDT.
- To liaise with families, and others involved with a young person’s care.
- To be on call once per week during the day for the LIST team.
- To participate in the regular meetings related to the medical management of cases in the service.
- To develop a special clinical interest with the Consultant agreement.
- Where agreed between management and the post-holder to provide services for other agencies.
- The above duties will be under the direction of the respective supervising Consultant.
Working for our organisation
The team is based at Eaglestone Health Centre within the Milton Keynes University Hospital campus.
There are various therapy rooms and offices in the team base. On the hospital site staff have access to café’s and shops, a library and academic centre. Staff work in the base on a flexible basis to meet service user need and will also make home and school visits when required. The current team is multi-disciplinary (see below) and has a strong leadership structure with full time Service and Team managers plus a full time Clinical Lead. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the senior leadership team. The disciplines represented are medical, nursing, including non-medical prescribers, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, family therapy and art therapy. Trainees from psychology and nursing also have placements within the team.

- The post-holder will be expected to promote a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency approach to delivery of person-centred care.
- The post-holder will be based at Eaglestone Health Centre.
- The post-holder will have access to office space, including personal computer equipment, on call mobile phone and access to mobile working.
- There is shared secretarial support for this post.
- The split of programmed activities will be 8 direct clinical care and 2 supporting professional activities.

- The post-holder will be expected to participate in the Out of Hours on call rota alongside other Consultant and Specialty Doctor colleagues. The on-call frequency is 1:6 (4% on call supplement) and is second on call to the Liaison and Intensive Support Team (LIST)
- Offer of attendance to management courses organised within CNWL which include financial and leadership training
- Attendance to the Oxford MRCPsych courses for those who intend to sit the RCPsych examinations

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Full GMC Registration
- • Three years experience in psychiatry, of which at least six months experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
- • Eligibility for Section 12 approval
Desirable criteria
- • MRC Psych or equivalent.
- • Further experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- • Section 12 approval
Clinical
Essential criteria
- • Experience of managing complex cases in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- • Experience in risk assessment.
- • Sound professional judgment
Management/ Supervision
Essential criteria
- • Enthusiastic about learning and teaching
