Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join our specialist CAMHS team in Milton Keynes as maternity cover on 1 year fixed-term Contract. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high quality care to young people. We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic individual to join a forward-thinking, innovative service that meets the needs of young people today.
You will work within a large, committed team (over 50 staff) who pride themselves on a strong multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and deliver a high standard of care, with positive feedback and compliments received on a regular basis.
We are looking for individuals to start in May-June time.
Main duties of the job
- To carry out clinical duties associated with the provision of a psychiatric service to young people and adolescents who present with a variety of mental health presentations.
- To take responsibility for assessment, diagnosis, treatment and continuing care planning in conjunction with other team members where appropriate.
- To be an active part of the MDT.
- To liaise with families, and others involved with a young person’s care.
- To be on call once per week during the day for the LIST team.
- To participate in the regular meetings related to the medical management of cases in the service.
- To develop a special clinical interest with the Consultant agreement.
- Where agreed between management and the post-holder to provide services for other agencies.
- The above duties will be under the direction of the respective supervising Consultant.
The team is based at Eaglestone Health Centre within the Milton Keynes University Hospital campus. There are various therapy rooms and offices in the team base. Staff work in the base on a flexible basis to meet service user need and will also make home and school visits when required. The current team is multi-disciplinary and has a strong leadership structure with full time Service and Team manager.
Working for our organisation
In Milton Keynes, CNWL are responsible for the provision of mental health services for children and young people, adults and older adults. We jointly run the learning disability services with the local
authority. Milton Keynes Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) covers the whole area of Milton Keynes with all referrals received into the single point of access in the service. This is believed to be the best way to give greatest flexibility in case management and provision of service to children, young people and their families and carers. The service caters for all mental health presentations as well as children with learning disabilities who have mental health needs.
We have a long history of close working with Milton Keynes Council and Milton Keynes University Hospital to create joint services. Intermediate care, community equipment and learning disability services are integrated across health and social care and are provided through pooled budgets and integrated teams. We have built a strong working partnership with our commissioners and are part of Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care Board (ICB).
- Our services are delivered from 25 sites across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, but mostly we provide services within people’s own homes.

In order to fulfil the job responsibilities and the environment in which these responsibilities are carried out the post-holder is required to;
- Take responsibility for attending and participating in all mandatory and essential training to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the Trust and/or safety and wellbeing of other staff and the patients for whom you provide services.
- Be fully conversant with Trust clinical policies and the Mental Health Act 1983, and ensure they are implemented in practice.
- Ensure all incidents are reported in line with trust policy and learning from SUI’s and complaints is proactively managed and used to influence change in clinical practice.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults by being aware of and working in accordance with statutory guidance and local policies and procedures and attending training to a level required to ensure that you are competent to fulfil your responsibilities.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Full GMC Registration
- • Three years experience in psychiatry, of which at least six months experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.
- • Eligibility for Section 12 approval
Desirable criteria
- • MRC Psych or equivalent.
- • Further experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- • Section 12 approval
