Job overview

We are recruiting a a post of Clinical Fellow.

The position will be based on either a General Medicine, Adult Medicine or Acute Medicine Ward. Depending on the service need.

Once you are placed on a Ward this position is a fixed term contract for 12 months .

GMC Registration is essential. NHS experience is beneficial. 

Overview

Acute Medicine at the Princess Royal forms part of the Acute and Emergency Medicine Division and works closely with the Emergency Department to provide acute care services on the site based in the Acute Medical Unit and the Ambulatory unit.  The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team comprising of 8 Acute Medicine Consultants and 24 junior doctors. 

Individuals will get the chance to work on the acute medical take focusing on managing acutely unwell patients within the first 48 hours of admission, and more stable acute patients in the ambulatory unit.  The appointee will gain experience in managing a large range of medical conditions and the opportunity to gain confidence in assessing and treating unstable patients.

 

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has, or are on course to, successfully complete a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies who will join at a Clinical Fellow level. Ideally trainees will have an up to date certification for Adult Life Support training, or be able to fulfil the necessary qualification upon appointment.

Although this appointment is not accredited for training through HEE, the appointee will be expected to participate fully in the many educational and training opportunities within the department and the hospital.  The appointee will have a named clinical/ education supervisor.  Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors.

The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in any medical specialty.

Previous post holders have been successful in gaining entry to training programmes upon completion as well as completing their Royal College membership exams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Provision of a first-class clinical service.
• Effective leadership for all staff engaged in the specialty.
• Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King’s College London / KHP.
• Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
• Conducting clinical practice in line with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s service plans.
• Maintaining the confidentiality of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group, or the Trust.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience within General Medicine or Acute Medicine
  • Successful completion of a Foundation School Training Programme in the UK (or able to prove equivalent competencies)

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice.
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP part 1 (or equivalent)
  • Academic honours or prizes
  • Valid ALS (or equivalent).

Other skills

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead change.
  • The willingness to conduct or support clinical research.
  • EExperience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
  • Flexible and resilient.
  • Effective communicator, able to work in a close-knit team and co-operate with all medical and paramedical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
  • Teaching skills course / qualification.
