Saturday 8th June 2024 - Maternity Open Day

This is event is taking place at Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough Common Orpington BR6 8ND.

The team at King's Maternity look forward to meeting midwives interested in working in a band 5 or band 6 role at our Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH)sites. 

The event will give you the opportunity to meet our team of senior midwifery leaders, specialist midwives and staff working in different clinical areas. You will be able to gain information on the services we offer across our sites and find out about the wellbeing support that King's offers to all Trust employees. 

If you are interested in being interviewed please bring your CV and a proof of photo ID.

Come prepared for OSCE and CTG assessments on the day. Panel interview slots are available in the afternoon on a first-come-first serve basis. Relevant NMC UK registration required or working towards degree as a 3rd year student.

  • 10:45am  Fetal Monitoring Assessment and tours of the unit
  • 11:15am Tour of the maternity unit
  • 12:00pm Lunch

You will be responsible for the provision of autonomous, evidence-based, women-centred midwifery care, whilst working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies, representatives and service users. You will provide support to other midwives within the service. This may include a management responsibility for the midwifery practice or team in the absence of the Band 7 Midwife.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area
  • Contribute to the development of services and  quality improvement
  • Ensure own actions promote quality and alert others to quality issues.
  • Support people's equality, diversity and rights
  • Assess people’s health and wellbeing needs when those needs are complex and change across the caseload
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate care pathways to address clients complex and changing health and wellbeing needs
  • Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice
  • Plan, allocate, assess and provide feedback to team members
  • Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources
  • Participate in on call-rota as part of the preceptorship rotational programme

Responsibilities for physical and financial resources

  • To ensure efficient and effective use of material resources / supplies within the ward/unit
  • To monitor, control and store resources/supplies according to the requirements and specifications of the clinical environment
  • To identify any problems with resource use / availability and make recommendations for corrective action
  • To maintain accurate records of resource use

Partnership working/service development

  • To adhere to trust policies and procedures relating to own workplace to contribute to service development
  • Take an active role in the implementation of the emerging Nursing and Midwifery agenda
  • Promote the profession of Midwifery and ensure midwifery care is evidence based and in line with best practice.
  • Embrace the public health agenda and support the delivery of local delivery plans
  • Participate in the teaching of parent education
  • To implement and propose changes to policies / practices in own area
  • To evaluate with others the effectiveness of any changes and how these have improved services

Research, Development and Audit

Quality

  • To ensure own actions promote quality and identify and manage any risks
  • To participate in setting and maintaining optimal standards of care on the ward / unit
  • To keep up to date and act consistently with quality standards and guidelines within their own clinical area and associated areas
  • To evaluate the quality of their own and others work, and where necessary make the appropriate improvements
  • To have an understanding of the quality agenda and how standards of care can be maintained
  • To monitor the quality of work in own area, raise quality issues and related risks and bring these to the attention of others
  • To assist others in understanding how their practice should change to improve quality

Audit

  • To participate in audit / benchmarking within the clinical area supporting the introduction of a change in practice if indicated
  • To contribute effectively to evaluation studies (e.g. patient satisfaction surveys)
  • To re-evaluate following any change to ensure that improvements have been made.
