Job overview

Following a successful business case, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic paediatric dietitian to join our team. This role would suit an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 paediatric dietitian who would like to work in neonates to further develop their neonatal dietetic skills.

You will join another band 7 neonatal dietitian and work closely alongside the wider MDT to provide highly specialised dietetic advice to children and their families and carers, predominantly within the Neonatal Unit and Neonatal outpatient clinic as required; as well as provide support to the general paediatric dietetic service as appropriate.

Our department is actively involved in the education of other health care professionals and student dietitians, and as an expert resource on nutrition in neonates, you will be expected to participate in this training as well as the supervision and development of junior team members.

We are committed to professional and personal development, and you will benefit from many opportunities for service improvement whilst being supported in your own career development.

The ideal candidate will have good clinical dietetic experience. Acute Paediatric experience is essential, and some neonatal experience is highly desirable. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and enjoy working within a dynamic multidisciplinary environment.

Main duties of the job

To work as a specialist Dietitian within the Trust by providing expert assessment, monitoring and support for patients in the neonatal unit requiring nutritional intervention by using evidence based practice and conforming to Best Practice Guidelines, as well as provide support to the paediatric dietetic service. The post holder will manage a clinical caseload that covers both in and outpatient work in addition to line managing and supporting junior dietitians.
To lead service development within own clinical area and contribute to the day to day running and development of the dietetic service through the promotion, adaptation and development of relevant policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence based practise and current research.

To provide expert guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) on matters relating to your specialist area. The post holder will undertake research and audit on a regular basis.

Multidisciplinary team working, close liaison between acute and community teams, and highly developed skills in communicating with patients, carers, and other service users is essential.

Provide leadership for the dietetic team, in conjunction with the Clinical Lead, in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the dietetic service provided to patients within your specialist area on a day to day basis

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
