An exciting opportunity for a Speech & Language Therapist wanting to further develop their managerial skills alongside their highly specialist clinical skills. If you have significant experience in the field of Adult Learning Disability (ALD) and/or Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND), including specialist dysphagia skills, we would welcome your application. You would be joining a highly respected team of Speech & Language Therapists, Co-workers & Assistants working across 3 London Boroughs in a variety of settings.
You will be managing a small Therapy Team of SaLT, OT & Physio at the London South East Colleges (LSEC) group, Bromley Campus. The well respected Therapy Team service has been developing over the last 10 years & is now contracted on a longer-term basis. The service aims to support young people with SEND to access the college curriculum & prepare for adulthood. Team activities include assessment, classroom observations, provision of therapy plans & groups. There is a strong emphasis on functional communication, use of AAC & creation of an inclusive communication environment.

Main duties of the job
To work as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Therapy Team Clinical/Operational Lead within the Adult Learning Disabilities Directorate, delivering high quality assessment and intervention to young people attending SEND courses at LSEC Bromley Campus.
You will be working alongside other Band 7 SaLTs in the Directorate, supported by the Professional Lead, to develop and implement creative, evidence based and efficient approaches to service delivery. We have a robust supervision and PDR process and are keen to support continuing personal development. We encourage the development of special interests and meet regularly as a SaLT service to share skills and knowledge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To lead, plan and develop the LSEC Therapy Team (Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) at the Bromley Campus ensuring delivery of a high quality, efficient therapy service.
- To deliver high quality, Specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention to people to young people attending SEND courses at LSEC Bromley Campus.
- To contribute to the selection, recruitment, and induction of both qualified and unqualified AHP staff.
- To operationally manage, clinically supervise and appraise Speech and Language Therapy staff.
- To operationally manage and contribute to appraisal of other AHP staff in the LSEC Therapy Team.
- To provide statistical data on LSEC Therapy Team provision in accordance with local requirements.
Person specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to master’s degree or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 4 years’ post-graduate experience, 2 of which are within area of specialism
- Experience in mentoring/supporting less experienced staff/assistants
- Experience in contributing to policy, planning and service development
- Experience of multi-disciplinary and inter agency working
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- To demonstrate acute auditory and multi-dimensional observation skills e.g., phonetic transcription, assessment of dysphagia
- In-depth knowledge of specialist area.
