Job overview

The Renal Satellite unit at Ealing Hospital is a 19 station Adult Haemodialysis Unit caring for patients with chronic renal failure requiring maintenance haemodialysis treatment.  

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with the relevant clinical skills with at least 3 years’ experience in the Haemodialysis setting. You will have significant post registration experience including a recognised Renal Course and teaching qualification with a desire to further develop your management skills. 

We operate three shifts Monday to Saturday, 07:00 – 23:30, closed Sundays. If you are a caring, compassionate and experienced haemodialysis nurse able to demonstrate the appropriate level of specialist knowledge and leadership skills related to hemodialysis treatment and wish to work autonomously in partnership with patients, then we would encourage you to apply. 

Main duties of the job

  • To lead a group of nurses within their team in the haemodialysis unit.
  • Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
  • Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care for a team of patients.
  • Plan, organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs within their team.
  • Co-ordinate the shift in the absence of the unit manager ensuring adequate handover is achieved, staff allocated effectively and patient referrals are triaged. Liaise with Inpatient wards and satellite units on the transfer of patients where applicable.
  • Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested. Liaise with the dietician, counsellor and the transplant team.
  • To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
  • Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to the speciality as advised by the senior sister or charge nurse.
