We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

As CIO, you will lead on digital and technology across the Trust. You will work in close partnership with clinical, operational, and corporate leaders to shape and deliver a digital vision that enhances patient care, empowers staff, and supports service transformation.

You will also play a pivotal role in building and nurturing relationships with collaborative and external partners, including the ICB, local authorities, voluntary sector organisations, and national NHS bodies. to ensure our digital strategy is collaborative, future-proof, and aligned with wider system goals.

You will be responsible for:

·         Delivering the Trust’s technology strategy and roadmap in line with our digital and organisational goals

·         Identifying and implementing emerging technologies to support innovation and transformation

·         Leading the modernisation and optimisation of workflows through digital solutions

·         Ensuring cyber resilience and the integrity of critical infrastructure, including networks, cloud platforms, telephony, and service desk operations

·         Embedding a proactive, performance-driven culture across technology teams

·         Engaging meaningfully with clinicians, frontline staff, and service users to co-design digital solutions that work in real-world settings

·         Ensure relevant legal and statutory obligations are fulfilled in the delivery of digital services

Main duties of the job

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader with a proven track record in technology transformation. You’ll bring:

·         Extensive experience in IT leadership at a Board or Sub Board level, ideally within the NHS or similarly complex, regulated health care environments

·         Deep technical understanding across infrastructure, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, data architecture, and interoperability standards

·         Proven experience delivering large-scale digital programmes, including EPR implementations, remote monitoring, and AI-enabled solutions

·         Strong understanding of clinical systems and digital enablers that support integrated care, population health management, and personalised services

·         Proven ability to modernise legacy systems, drive cloud migration, and embed agile methodologies across multidisciplinary teams

·         Strategic vision for emerging technologies such as automation, virtual care, digital therapeutics, and data-driven decision support

·         Experience managing complex vendor ecosystems, contracts, and service-level agreements to ensure value and resilience

·         Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at Board level and inspire technical teams to deliver excellence

  • Educated to masters in relevant field or equivalent level experience, within a digital discipline

Experience & knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience as a digital leader at Board or Sub Board level, in a large and complex organisation (minimum of 5 years)
