Applications are invited for a locum consultant post in infection at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, to support delivery of the infection service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. The post is available as a twelve-month fixed term contract in the first instance.
The post is best suited to an applicant with CCTs or equivalent in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. Candidates with CCTs in Microbiology, or Infectious Diseases, or Infectious Diseases and General Medicine are also welcome to apply.
The candidate will work 10PAs, with no out of hours on-call commitment, based mainly at the RNOH, Stanmore.
The job plan will include the following:
· Clinical microbiology service
· Specialist bone infection service
· Infection prevention and control service
· Outpatient antimicrobial service
· Educational and clinical supervision of junior doctors
The post sits within the Department of Microbiology, which is part of the Infection and Associated Specialties Clinical Service Line. This includes the Departments of Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Virology, and HIV medicine, with strong links to the Department of Immunology.
Main duties of the job
Clinical microbiology services at the RNOH include the provision of joint outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds, oversight of new laboratory results and authorisation, and the teaching of medical students. In addition, successful applicants will have opportunities to contribute to the provision of the out-patient antimicrobial treatment (OPAT) service, specialist surgical MDTs, the antimicrobial stewardship service, and the infection prevention and control service (IPC) at the RNOH Stanmore site.
The Trust runs internationally recognised clinical research and training programmes and our hospitals conduct medical research, much of which is of international reputation. The department has strong links with the University College London (UCL) Centre for Clinical Microbiology (CCM). The Royal Free London is a leading Trust for the training of doctors, nurses, midwives and professions allied to medicine. Fourteen infection trainees rotate through the department and provide on call services for the infection services under consultant supervision.

- MBBS or equivalent
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants that are UK trained must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent
