Job overview
The role of the post holder is to undertake the duties of a Fire Safety Manager (FSM) and act as the lead competent person in fire relation issues in accordance with the NHS HTM 05-01 standards and The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.To ensure the Trust meets it’s Statutory and Common Law (Patient Care) obligations, the post holder must provide specialist fire safety advice, devise and ensure the delivery of statutory safety training for Fire Safety.The FSM will lead on all matters relating to fire safety, the post holder will be responsible for establishing and leading a “fire safety management system” across the organisation and building key working relationships internally and externally.

Main duties of the job
Be responsible ensuring accurate fire risk assessments are kept up to date, deficiencies are acted upon and documented.
Implement projects and manage (fire related) as funding is allocated from the Trusts annual capital programme.
Produce comprehensive reports for communicating to all levels within the Trust including Executive Committees and Trust Board.
Provide professional safety leadership and Management to ensure that the Trust complies with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and HTM 05-01 as far as reasonable practicable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Lead on how the organisation meets its statutory obligations in respect of fire safety and advising the relevant Committees of the effects of new or amended legislation and on the effectiveness of compliance.
Identify and lead initiatives in support of a comprehensive Fire Strategy including supporting policy, protocols, and procedures for all Trust sites.
Be responsible for developing appropriate strategies, guidance, and codes of practice to facilitate effective implementation of Fire Safety Policy.
Be responsible for training, inspections and audits against current fire legislation and fire practices across the Trust.

Essential criteria
- Educated to Master’s Degree or equivalent in fire specialisation knowledge and experience.
Desirable criteria
- Additional specialist knowledge acquired through post-graduate level courses & experience to master’s equivalent level.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of Fire safety management providing expert advice and knowledge to the Trust Board and operational staff across departmental boundaries on fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation and codes of practice and fire safety training
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a complex clinical environment in a similar role.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Specialist Fire Safety Courses e.g. Fire Service College or NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
