Main duties of the job

A typical week might include…

·          Managing a community clinic caseload with the support of experienced members of the team

·          Carrying out formal and informal assessments in both initial and review appointments

·          Providing advice, support and training to families

·          Completing relevant paperwork including targets and reports

·          Running small group sessions with colleagues and providing individual therapy sessions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is HCPC and RCSLT registered with relevant experience working with children
  • Has experience in the assessment and management of children with a range of speech, language and communication needs
  • Has knowledge of evidence-based practice and therapy methods
  • Brings excellent communication skills and a person-centred approach.
  • Is confident working independently but enjoys being part of a team.
  • Shows a creative and flexible approach
  • Has good IT and organisational skills

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Desirable criteria
  • Registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level
  • Experience of working with children
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of NHS systems such as EMIS

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Good analytical, problem solving and reflection skills
  • Good IT Skills: word, database, email, internet
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to client group
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including observation, listening and empathy
  • Knowledge of national polices and procedures relating to children with speech, language and communication needs
  • Awareness of standards of record keeping
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of risk assessment for this client group
