Job overview

This administrative role will give you the opportunity to work in a vibrant and busy radiotherapy department within a team that are compassionate and dedicated to delivering high quality patient care in everything they do.
The post-holder will be primarily responsible for booking and manipulating complex radiotherapy pathways to tailor treatment requirements to the individual patient. They will also be key in communicating this complex information to patients along with preparation instructions for the radiotherapy planning process.This role will sit within a dedicated team at the Sutton site but the post holder may be asked to co-ordinate the flow for both sites of the radiotherapy department.
We are looking for an efficient and organised person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will also be IT literate with an interest in healthcare. Main duties of the job
- The post-holder will be primarily responsible for booking and manipulating complex radiotherapy pathways to tailor treatment requirements to the individual patient. They will also be key in communicating this complex information to patients – this will be in person or by phone predominantly. To do this the individual will need to collate radiotherapy referral and consent information and interpret booking needs from these. The post will be based in Sutton but the post holder will coordinate patient flow for both sites of the radiotherapy department.
- The post holder will be required to understand the complex radiotherapy pathways and techniques and the limitations of equipment with respect to appropriate workload. The post holder must be able to communicate information to the patients so that they are appropriately prepared for their procedures.
- The post-holder will liaise with medical, physics, nursing, clerical and support staff within the department and throughout the institution. The key working relationships will be with Superintendent Radiographers and clinical oncologists, particularly the SpRs.

- Be responsible for the management of patient appointments and the patient’s information needs before treatment when a booking is made without the patient present.
- Responsible for timely and accurate response to booking requests, supporting RT clinics for bookings.
- Able to interpret treatment requirements for individual patients and coordinate pathway appropriately.
- Assess all bookings for adherence to waiting time guidelines and escalate as necessary.
- Communicate all information in relation to patient pathway as requested to patients.
- Record any relevant contact with patient on ICW.
- Be able to make bookings according to departmental protocols in compliance with IR(ME)R.

Attainments
Essential criteria
- General education to GCSE to include English & Mathematics – Grade C or above (or equivalent)
- To have previous experience of organising and planning workflow
- To have previous experience in dealing directly with clients
- Previous experience of working in a time pressured environment and proven ability to manage competing demands.
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- A levels or equivalent
- Candidates who have previous experience within the hospital environment, and particularly radiotherapy.

- Able to plan and prioritize work.
- Able to use initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Be an effective communicator across the multi-disciplinary team using both written and spoken English; including being able to manage sensitive information and to deal with anxious and demanding individuals using diplomacy and persuasion.

- Previous roles in admin and clerical support using computerized work planning or appointing systems
