Job overview

This is a position as a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist. The post holder will join the existing team of substantive consultants based at The Royal Marsden, Sutton.

The successful applicant will be part of the consultant team providing care for children and young people with haematological malignancies in conjunction with substantive consultants Dr Donna Lancaster, Dr Mary Taj, Dr Sanjay Tewari, Dr Robin Dowse, Dr Elsje Van Rijswijk and Dr Caroline Furness.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be asked to contribute to departmental organisational development as appropriate to the post and post holder. The post holder will be expected to contribute to an area of management responsibility within the department.

Support and mentorship for the post holder will be provided by the Head of the Unit, Dr Sucheta Vaidya) with any BMT mentorship and support provided by Dr Caroline Furness, lead for paediatric transplant. As the successful applicant will join an established team of consultants including 3 FRCPath paediatric haematologists robust opportunities for mentorship and support are available

Essential criteria
  • Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • FRCPath (Haematology) or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health or the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications
  • CCT in Paediatric Haematology or within 6 months’ of obtaining it. (Or equivalent CESR status)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree (PhD/MD)
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based experience in paediatric haemato-oncology
  • Experience in bone marrow transplant
  • Experience in haematology diagnostic laboratory reporting
  • Experience in Clinical Trials
  • Ability to manage acute care of children with solid tumours with appropriate support
  • Organisation of education and training of junior doctors
  • Experience in medical audit
  • IT skills
