Specialist Haemato-Oncology Pharmacist

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic, highly motivated pharmacists to enhance their paediatric or oncology experience and join the Children and Young People’s (CYP) pharmacy team on the Sutton site at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidates will be working collaboratively as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience and support the Lead Pharmacist in leading the team to deliver outstanding pharmacy services to the CYP Unit. We are looking for individuals who are motivated, dynamic, and flexible.
The Royal Marsden's Oak Centre for CYP is one of the largest comprehensive children and young people’s cancer centres in Europe. We treat a range of paediatric and young adult cancers (leukaemia, lymphomas, solid and brain tumours) in patients from 1 to 24 years of age. The Royal Marsden is one of the largest UK bone marrow transplant units for patients with malignant disease and are accredited by the Joint Accreditation Committee of the International Society for Cellular Therapy and the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (JACIE). You will work to be accredited to manage patients undergoing bone marrow transplantations.
The in-patient wards (McElwain ward and Teenage Cancer Trust Unit) deliver treatment 7 days a week to up to 27 patients. The Children’s Day Unit is open Monday to Friday for outpatient care.
Main duties of the job
- To work as an integral member of the haemato-oncology pharmacy team jointly providing an expert pharmacy service to the haemato-oncology patients, multidisciplinary team and provide highly specialist support to the wider pharmacy team in this area.
- To lead on pharmaceutical issues relating to medicines management and clinical trials within the Haemato-oncology unit, ensuring adherence to national guidelines and medicines legislation.
- To be a lead within the pharmacy department for education and training and clinical governance issues relating to Haemato-oncology.
- To provide a framework for the safe, efficient and cost effective use of drug resources within the Haemato-oncology unit by the provision of procedures, protocols and drug usage information.

- To provide and expert pharmaceutical service to the Haemato-oncology Unit, ensuring that service development is in line with national and international standards.
- To critically evaluate and interpret published data on new drugs affecting the specialty across the Trust, in conjunction with medical staff, to prepare drug evaluations for the clinical unit prior to application to the Drug and Therapeutics Committee.
- To develop, implement maintain and audit drug protocols and treatment guidelines for disease management within the clinical unit, following drug evaluations and drug utilisation review, ensuring all guidance is in line with medicines legislation and best practise.
- To assist in the leadership on antifungal medicine use and stewardship, primarily in the cohort of adult haemato-oncology patients in liaison with the, Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist, Microbiology Consultants and Director of the Transplantation programme.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GPhC registration as a Pharmacist
- MSc/Diploma Pharmacy Practice
Desirable criteria
- Independent prescribing qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant NHS Hospital Pharmacy experience.
- Oncology Pharmacy experience and/or Paediatric experience
- DUR and clinical audit experience
Desirable criteria
- Delivering training to multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of budget management and directorate support.
- Experience of working with clinical trials
