We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated statisticians to join our growing team in the Research Data and Statistics Unit (RDSU) at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a world leader in cancer research, treatment and education.

Together with academic partner, Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), we are the largest cancer centre in Europe & the only National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) specialising in cancer. 

Our statisticians work under the Royal Marsden Clinical Trials Unit, and are exposed to the large, varied and innovative portfolio of studies ranging from early to late phase trials, and from simple to complex interventions.

You will be involved in all aspects of study design, protocol development, database design, and statistical analysis. You will work in collaboration with clinical teams, and be given the opportunity to co-author conference abstracts and peer-reviewed journal papers, as well as attend internal and external courses for your career development.

We welcome graduates straight out of post-grad education, along with those with a varying degree of career experience.

Vacancies are full-time, initially for two years, primarily based in Sutton with possibility of working in Chelsea, with flexible hybrid working.

The post holder will be part of the Research Data and Statistics Unit (RDSU), which provides expert support and advice relating to the full range of statistical and analytical aspects of the Trust’s clinical research programmes. The focus of the role is involvement in all aspects of study design, protocol development, database design, data handling, trial management and statistical analysis. The majority of the time will be spent on the analysis of research data, ensuring that the appropriate statistical techniques are used, and presenting and explaining the results to users in a clear, comprehensible manner. The post holder will play a role in supporting the statistical requirements of the Royal Marsden Clinical Trials Unit (RM-CTU).

  • To gain / maintain full working knowledge of the in-house software used to collect and analyse clinical research data; primarily MACRO and Stata
  • To gain / maintain knowledge of the EU directive on clinical trials (EU directive 2001/20/EC) and ICH GCP according to EU directive 2005/28/EC
  • To gain a good knowledge of the clinical features, management and treatment of the disease being studied, and to keep updated of any developments in the area
  • To gain a working knowledge of the RMH EPR in order to liaise with users and analyse data where necessary

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a subject with a statistical component
  • Higher qualification in statistics or at least 3 years appropriate experience in applied statistics, preferably in the role of medical statistician

Experience

  • Practical experience of PC Applications and good knowledge of MS Office products

  • Experience of presenting complex statistical information so that it is understandable to users without statistical knowledge.
  • Experience of carrying out survival analysis and the application of other relevant statistical techniques.
  • Experience in manipulating complex databases
  • Experience in contributing to the statistical design of clinical trials
  • Awareness of research governance issues in clinical trials.
