Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon

Consultant

Job overview

This is an 8PA, permanent role at the Sutton site of the Royal Marsden. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional surgeon and clinical leader with a background in developing clinical research. This role will be suitable for a surgeon who is adept at balancing competing demands and is comfortable with being flexible and responsive to help meet both the service and research needs of the department.
Although this is an 8 PA post, the Trust would be very supportive of the successful applicant developing their portfolio in an area that compliments their clinical practice and which may be eventually incorporated into their job plan.
The clinical commitments are outlined in the indicative job plan overleaf, with the post holder required to work flexibly to deliver a 50 week service and support the unit as necessary.
The appointee will join the surgical team of Ms Katherine Krupa, Ms Rachel O’Connell, and Mr Peter Barry. They will have full and appropriate administrative/secretarial support. The team includes both HEE London trainees and peri-CCT fellows as well as one locally employed SHO level core surgical trainee. Opportunities for mentoring will be available via the Lead Surgeon and this will be discussed with the successful applicant on commencing employment.

Main duties of the job

•    Providing a comprehensive service for patients with breast cancer and benign breast conditions.

•    Participating in the weekly multidisciplinary meeting and supporting the multidisciplinary care team which includes Surgeons, Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Radiologists, Fellows and deanery trainees, Specialist Nursing Staff, Pathologists, Radiographers, Palliative Care and Psychological Support.

•    Supporting the existing strong links with the plastic surgery service and attend the weekly oncoplastic MDM.

•    Working closely with the clinical genetics service in the context of the existing risk-reducing and family history practice.

•    Carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to post graduate and continuing medical education activities locally, nationally and internationally.

•    A commitment to the development of their professional knowledge and to fulfil their Continuing Medical Education and GMC revalidation requirements.

•    Carrying out audit, quality improvement and other related Clinical Governance activities as required by the Trust and the Royal Colleges. This includes attendance at the bi-monthly Trust wide surgical audit meeting.
