Job overview
This post is based at the Croydon laboratory where you will complete multidisciplinary training in Haematology/Blood transfusion and Biochemistry departments.
You will be expected to rotate through the departments as required to support the service. You will also be expected to work at any of the SWLP sites as and when required.
The Biomedical Scientist role requires motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who would like to gain post registration multidisciplinary experience within clinical blood sciences.
You will be given the opportunity to complete the IBMS specialist diploma.
Main duties of the job
- To be an efficient and flexible member of the SWL Pathology team providing a consistently high quality and professional service to all users of the service.
- Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of a Registered Biomedical Scientist.
- You will be required to rotate in biochemistry, haematology and blood transfusion departments of the laboratory. Full training would be provided
- Contribute to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
- Provide clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
- You will be required to participate in 24/7 laboratory service to include out of hours working.

Croydon University Hospital Laboratory operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to a busy A&E and acute services. The Biochemistry Laboratory is equipped with Beckman AU5812, DxI 9000 and DXA 5000 track for pre and post analytic automation. Haematology is equipped with ACL Top 570, Beckman Coulter DxH 900 with AutoMate 1200 for pre/post analytics, as well as Immucor IRIS for automated Blood Transfusion services.
The Croydon University Hospital CBS Laboratory is UKAS accredited and has IBMS approval for training Biomedical Scientists to registration and specialist BMS level.

- An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
- HCPC Registration
- Clinical Blood Sciences laboratory work experience
Knowledge and Experience

- Proven experience post HCPC registration in the relevant discipline
- Excellent working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Knowledge of health and safety issues Experience of quality management systems
