Job overview

A unique opportunity has arisen for Clinical Manager in Wandsworth Community Services.  The Clinical Manager is one of the Borough Leadership quartet and as such, works closely with the Clinical Service lead, Borough Associate Clinical Director and lead for Psychology and Psychotherapy, to ensure delivery of high quality, safe and effective services that provide positive experience outcomes for service users, carers and staff. 

 The post holder will be a registered clinician, the post holder will take a lead role in partnering borough stakeholders within the wider health and social care environment.

Interviews are expected to take place on 19 or 20 June, 2025 tbc

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working within the community mental health setting with strong people skills and change management experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· The post holder is expected to clinically and operationally lead and manage the delivery of high-quality services in a defined area, within available resources and in line with the Trusts governance framework.

· To ensure the quality of clinical care within their defined areas

· At all times to role model effectiveness working with colleagues, holding self and colleagues to account appropriately and demonstrating personal commitment to the delivery of high-quality services.

· To be accessible to lead and promote quality and to empower and enable staff/teams to develop and maintain their skills and competencies in order to retain a sustainable workforce.

· To promote evidence-based practice, including Identify risks and take corrective action in line with the trusts integrated governance framework, including responding to Serious Incidents (SIs), Incidents, complaints and communications, ensuring timely and thorough Page 2 of 9 investigation, disseminating recommendation, and monitoring that actions are fully implemented.

· To take a key role, by actively contributing, in the planning and delivery of the business objectives, service plans and change projects, ensuring customer focus, consistency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

· Contribute to external groups and specific projects and work streams as required within the local health and social care community.

· The post holder will take part in the on-call rota.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Clinical – must hold a valid Registration with a professional body.
  • Educated to Masters Degree(MSc)level qualification or professional/clinical equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Recent management related training or senior managerial professional qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of employment legislation
  • Significant management and or leadership training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • In depth current post registration clinical experience within a wide range of clinical specialities
  • Proven ability to competently directly manage a Ward/Team
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise across a number of areas e.g. clinical, infection control, nutrition, safeguarding
  • Experience of concurrently managing a wide variety of projects
  • Significant professional leadership, especially professional development, clinical governance and supervision and appraisal
  • Track record of involving and motivating staff to improve performance
  • Senior management experience in a health or social care setting including high level negotiation and partnership forming
  • Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams in a health environment
  • Leading projects to successful outcomes
  • Experience of successfully identifying, planning, implementing and evaluating a range of services according to the needs of the people it serves
  • Experience of service development/service review and leading on successful implementation of change
  • Experience of successfully managing integration and modernising services
  • Experience of effective financial management
  • Evidence of producing business cases and RCA reports
Desirable criteria
  • Significant management and or leadership training
  • Experience of research, publication and presentation
  • Experience of quality improvement projects

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of best practice in inpatient and community care settings and the benefits and challenges of joint working between social services and health
  • Knowledge of national policies and recent changes within the health and social care economy
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Strong leadership skills including true ability to influence, negotiate, provide clarity and take difficult decisions
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to demonstrate budget management skills including financial planning and management of CIPs
  • Ability to manage time and working successfully in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective report writing and presentation skills
  • Evidence of managing high-risk situations effectively
  • To have the ability to deliver complex and difficult messages in a manner that is clear and delivered in line with the Trst Values
  • Knowledge of Human Resources and Workforce policy and procedure that supports the development and the performance of their team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of effective redesign and improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of workforce developments in clinical settings /operational services
