Job overview

We are looking to recruit a band 8C,  Deputy Head of Applications and Clinical Systems.

The Deputy Head of Applications and Clinical Systems will hold a senior role in the Applications & Clinical Systems Team as deputy for the Head of Applications and Clinical Systems.

The Applications and Clinical Systems Team is responsible for ensuring the Applications and Clinical Systems supported by the department, including the Millennium EPR, are suitably developed, maintained and delivered within the Trust, SWL and London in accordance with national, corporate and project directives for the delivery of configuration. The Applications Team also liaises with and provides expertise and advice to clinical services for systems owned by them, most of which are interfaced to the EPR.

They will be required to assist in planning and overseeing the activities and operations related to the applications and clinical systems supported by the department related to deployment, upgrades and enhancements across the Trust,  

They will provide expert professional advice on Applications and Clinical Systems development matters to other IM&T colleagues, as well as a wider clinical and operational audience.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for previous experience of working in a high demanding environment with excellent communication skills and to be able to work well as part of a team.

Previous experience of clinical information systems and remote support software would be a definite advantage.

Previous experience of working in an Acute NHS Trust with a significant EPR is highly desirable.

Essential criteria
  • • Highly specialist education: PhD or equivalent experience including additional in-depth professional training and specialist knowledge in a relevant discipline to doctorate or equivalent level, acquired through training and experience over an extended period.
  • • Formal qualification in Information Technology Services/Programme discipline
  • • Evidence of continued professional and managerial development
  • • A minimum of 7 years’ relevant professional experience of healthcare systems and applications
Desirable criteria
  • ITIL Foundation Level Certification

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning with highly developed political skills
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly
  • Negotiations at senior level
  • Understanding of project management tools and techniques
  • Ability to provide informative reporting on finances and impact to management
  • • Demonstrated capability of working on business cases, options appraisals and specifications to procure clinical systems; and of procurement processes for the same
  • • The post holder will have a thorough understanding of the requirements for developing and implementing successful mechanisms for the provision of support to end users of Cerner Millennium/other EPR and other clinical systems
  • • The post holder must be able to analyse complex facts and situations and be able to develop a range of options.
  • • The post holder must work with his/her own initiative and organise workload of the team so the function is optimally delivered while working to tight and changing deadlines.

  • • Knowledge of specialist system and application packages

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • The post holder will have a senior level of experience of IM&T applications and systems management with a track record of achievement. Significant experience of complex SLA management
  • • 5+ years equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in IT Applications preferably in Acute NHS
  • • The role requires an individual with proven experience of leading, devising and implementing successful large scale change. at a senior levelExtensive experience in managing at a senior level, IDT infrastructure technical resources and operations in a large scale IT environments
  • • The post holder must have a minimum of 5 years in team leadership roles in a healthcare environment, ideally an Acute NHS organisation.
  • Experience of creating new team/s and motivating and inspiring staff to work together to achieve a common objective
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of working across organisational boundaries.
  • • Experience of working with clinicians.
  • • Senior level budget management experience within the NHS
