Service Manager - Dermatology

Job overview

As a key member of the service leadership team, the postholder will be jointly responsible for the provision of safe, effective and efficient Dermatology services at St Georges Hospital in Tooting (SGH), Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton (QMH) and the Nelson Health Centre in South Wimbledon. The postholder’s core responsibilities will include:

  • Day-to-day management of all operational issues within Dermatology services.
  • Ensuring the effective delivery of services to patients in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource limits.
  • Support the Assistant General Manager, General Manager and Clinical Leads in the delivery of Trust and national objectives.

Main duties of the job

The role will be reporting to the Assistant General Manager, and will be a vital part of the Dermatology and Specialist Medicine management team.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong operational background to support the delivery of high-quality and efficient patient care. Applicants should be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, be committed to personal development, have a proactive approach to change and be keen to work alongside clinical colleagues to develop the service and implement lasting service improvements.

The successful candidate will also have experience in managing pathways including RTT and cancer waiting times and experience in the management of budgets and staff. In turn, the successful candidate will have access to a plethora of development courses and opportunities, as part of the St George’s Leadership Academy and opportunities to progress their NHS management career within a supportive, enthusiastic and motivated team.

Experience

  • Demonstrable operational management experience in the health service, with previous experience of managing staff.
  • Evidence of innovation and achievement in management practice.
  • Experience of participating in clinical governance initiatives.
  • Budgetary control.

  • Evidence of successful operational leadership and effective involvement in change management.
  • Evidence of successful involvement in production of clear business cases.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent IT user skills, demonstrating proficiency in use of MS packages (able to design complex spreadsheets and databases) and high level of understanding IT issues.
  • Ability to work and plan the strategic direction of the service.
