Job overview

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive individual to join the Joint Research and Enterprise Service (JRES) as an Assistant Research and Development Officer. This 12-month fixed-term role is being offered as maternity cover.

In this role, you will support research governance and facilitation processes, working closely with academics and clinicians, particularly in the oversight and coordination of clinical studies conducted at St George’s.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide a high standard of service to researchers, offering continuous support and guidance throughout the research life cycle. This role is vital to ensuring that clinical research conducted at St George’s upholds the highest standards of scientific integrity, governance, and ethical practice.

The post-holder will be responsible for building and maintaining effective working relationships with research delivery professionals both within the organisation and with external collaborators. The ideal candidate will be able to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure environment while demonstrating excellent organisational, communication, and IT skills. A strong commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail is essential.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, providing advice on study feasibility, guiding academics and clinicians through the approval process, and offering ongoing support to facilitate successful study delivery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • English and Math at GCSE level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in a bioscience or medical subject
  • Trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous administrative experience in an NHS, University or clinical research environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of HRA, MHRA and NHS Management Permission approval processes
  • Working knowledge of legislation & guidelines relevant to clinical research
  • Knowledge and experience with using systems such as the Local Portfolio Management System – EDGE.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to effectively organise own workload with minimum of supervision and to work within tight deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of writing and working to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Knowledge of NIHR/NHS research agenda
