Job overview

We are excited advertise for a Senior Clinician/Practitioner/Supervisor (1.0 WTE) to supervise SCM practitioners and oversee Structured Clinical Management (SCM) interventions with adult service users with Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) in Haringey and Enfield.

We offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced mental health practitioner to further develop skills in supervising clinicians the delivery of SCM interventions with this client group including Personality Disorder/Complex Trauma/Complex PTSD, part of the core offer. 

The post holder will work alongside SCM practitioners and practitioner psychological therapists to implement SCM. The postholder will hold a small caseload of SCM clients and contribute an exciting service development extending the core offer of this client group. 

The successful candidate will be a qualified Mental Health Practitioner (e.g. RMN, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Associate Psychologist) with additional training/undertaking training in SCM and an interest in complex PTSD/complex trauma. 

Within the role, you will have access to SCM training and supervision (e.g. group and/or individual). You will provide 1:1 and group interventions to service users as part of the multidisciplinary team. You will take a lead role in supporting supervision and oversight of SCM practitioners embedded in the specialist Personality Disorder and Complex PTSD pathways and working into additional teams (e.g. the core community teams).

The post holder is expected to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members characterised by trust, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the regulating body and Organisation.

Responsibility for IT and Digital Systems/Services 

Alongside others to maintain digital systems related to the smooth running of SCM.

To use a high level of interpersonal skills, reasoning and negotiation skills to establish a therapeutic relationship with people with complex emotional difficulties managing barriers to communication.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN/ Occupational Therapy/Social work/ Clinical or Counselling Psychology Doctorate/BCP, BACP, UKCP registered Psychotherapist/CAP
  • Undertaking / have undertaken a qualification in SCM
  • Significant experience of supervising ideally both group and individual work
  • Interest / willingness to pursue SCM supervisor training / accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/ Mentorship qualification
  • SCM supervisor training
  • Completion of training in one or more models of psychological therapies for individuals with complex emotional needs for example SCM, MBT, Schema Therapy or CAT
  • Supervisor accreditation achieved or in process for example in SCM or MBT or other relevant psychological models

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the process necessary for effective risk assessment and management
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care plans to meet needs of clients.
  • Ability to set, monitor and evaluate standards for quality within the service.
  • Ability to undertake evidence based interventions with people suffering from a range of mental health problems
  • Ability to work effectively in crisis situations in order to maintain the safety of both staff and client.
  • Ability to teach staff and provide advice and support to other agencies / professionals.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues within a highly emotive and unpredictable environment
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a therapeutic and multi-professional environment within and outside the NHS
  • To be able to assess the mental state and risk for a wide range of patients with mental health problems and specifically for patients with personality disorder

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of one or more psychological models for working with service users with complex emotional needs for example, SCM, MBT, schema therapy or CAT

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of facilitating therapeutic groups
  • Demonstrable experience at Band 6 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work as part of a multi-professional team as a lead clinician and role model.
  • Experience of effective communication with other key stakeholders at a variety of levels.
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Capacity to work calmly and thoughtfully when addressing traumatic psychological issues, demonstrating an awareness of the sensitivity and unpredictability of Personality Disorder patients, and a capacity to tolerate the strong emotions evoked by such work
Desirable criteria
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others
  • Capacity to manage frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations and disclosures

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of and interest in working with complex PTSD and complex trauma
  • Interest in supporting core CMHTS and other teams to develop skills/knowledge in working with complex emotional needs including cPTSD

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing
