We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to work on our Perinatal Service in the Hillingdon Borough.
You will join a team that delivers specialist community perinatal mental health service (PMHS), which integrate maternity services, community and primary care services. We respond rapidly to presentations within the maternity context and address the risks to both mothers and infants of perinatal illness We focus on prevention, early detection with NICE guidelines and based in the community, close to mothers and babies.

The duties of the post include the mental health assessment and review of patients experiencing mental health problems in our perinatal services. The post-holder will work with a multi disciplinary team and be supervised by the Consultant Psychiatrist.
The post-holder will contribute to the assessment of new patients and take ownership of their own clinical case load, and is expected to provide clinical letters /discharge summaries and documentation of consultations on the systm1 e-records database in a timely manner (training will be provided on successful application).
The successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to patients acute and chronic psychiatric conditions in perinatal service, ensuring that assessment and interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way.
The post-holders will be part of a team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist, nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists. The post-holders will contribute to and help the Trainees with their development as well as contribute to cover when the consultant is on leave. Applicants should have experience of team working, possess sound organisation skills and be able to work on their own initiative. Effective communication and empathic skills are essential, and a commitment to outstanding patient care.

CNWL Perinatal Mental Health Service (PMHS) comprises specialist multidisciplinary perinatal mental health teams five boroughs served by the trust (Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster) enabling the delivery of evidence based perinatal mental health care through a coordinated multidisciplinary specialist approach across maternity, primary and secondary care, tertiary specialist services, social care and voluntary sector.

- Assessment (including assessment of risk), treatment and management of adults with mental health problems (functional and organic in the perinatal period (during pregnancy and up to 12 months postnatal).
- Treatment, using a sound knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidance, including medication reviews in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Formulating specialist opinion about a bio-psycho-social care plan.
- Contribution to Care Quality through audit and relevant participation in local and Trust wide care quality fora and processes
- Active involvement in teaching of undergraduate medical students
- Supervising the clinical work of Core Psychiatric Trainee, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Provide support to staff in the different applications of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Supporting Consultant Psychiatrist in chairing meetings, Best Interest Meetings; and presenting in MHA Tribunals/Managers Hearing.
- Supporting the MDT team to provide the best clinical care for patients
- Accurate record keeping according to Trust and professional guidelines.
- To contribute to the development of a culture of risk assessment and management to be delivered effectively in own area of responsibility and practice
- To represent the team/sector on both internal and external clinical and strategic planning forums and to act in a professional manner at all times.

Clinical Experience

- Completed at least four years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Extensive experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders in general adult psychiatry
- Understanding and experience of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
