HSJ Best Places to Work 2015 Top 100
We are seeking an enthusiastic acute medical consultant to continue developing our bespoke front door Consultant led Acute Medical Model. The job will also give the candidates an opportunity to develop a specialist interest within the needs of the department. The Division of Medicine is keen to attract high calibre applicants and therefore would encourage any potential candidates to discuss any specific interests which we would endeavour to accommodate.
Medically unwell patients are assessed or admitted through the newly built 46 bed AMU opened in December 2014. It has been prepared with the latest IT and Point-of-Care-Testing (POCT) facilities to aid clinical practice. The Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AECU) is a bespoke area, integrated within AMU, which is properly equipped for the assessment and treatment of patients not requiring admission. The AMU is located beside the Emergency Department thus incorporating an Emergency Floor. It is a busy, friendly unit. The Acute Medicine consultants are responsible for running the medical-on-call from 7 am till 7 pm, Monday to Friday aided by a trainee doctor, nursing and administrative team. Close working with other disciplines, especially the Emergency Department team and the acute frailty team ensures cohesive care. The timetables are flexible and allow for a good work-life balance. The appointee will help to drive forward the development of ambulatory services and ensure that patients see: ‘the right person, in the right setting, first time’, as well as be involved with the exciting developments in Acute Internal Medicine. The appointee will participate actively in supervision and teaching.
Candidates should have experience in Acute/General Medicine and be required to be on the Specialist Register (AIM or GIM) or within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
