Job overview
The Estates Maintenance Electrician is a key member of the Estates Maintenance team, responsible for delivering safe, effective, and responsive electrical maintenance services across the Trust estate.
The post holder will undertake reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault-finding, testing, and minor installation works on a wide range of electrical systems, including:
- Low voltage electrical distribution systems
- Lighting and emergency lighting
- Small power and final circuits
- Nurse call and essential services
- Standby generators and associated systems
All work must be carried out in accordance with:
- BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
- HTM 06-01 Electrical Services
- Trust policies, procedures, and safe systems of work
The post holder will work under the direction of Estates Supervisors and support the wider Estates team to ensure compliance, operational resilience, and patient safety.
The role includes supporting higher-skilled staff, including Band 5 Multi-Skilled Technicians and Authorised Persons (APs), particularly in relation to compliance activities and statutory testing.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities and key result areas to include:
1. Reactive Maintenance
• Act as a responder to electrical faults raised via the Estates Helpdesk system
• Diagnose, isolate, and repair faults across electrical systems including:
o Lighting and emergency lighting systems
o Socket outlets and small power systems
o Distribution boards and final circuits
o Nurse call systems and essential services
• Carry out safe fault-finding using appropriate testing instruments

Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds in Electrical Installation or equivalent
- Completed recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or structured training programme
- Knowledge of safe isolation procedures and electrical safety standards
- Training in Health & Safety (e.g. Risk Assessment, Safe Systems of Work)
- Experience in electrical maintenance within a commercial, industrial, or healthcare environment
- Experience in diagnosing and repairing electrical faults across lighting, power, and distribution systems
Desirable criteria
- Asbestos Awareness
- Basic multi-skilled training (mechanical or building fabric)
- First Aid Awareness (including electric shock response)
- Experience supporting planned maintenance activities such as generator testing or plant inspections
- Experience working in an NHS or healthcare environment
