Job overview

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our X-Ray Department as a Band 2 Clinical Imaging Assistant. The post will support patients undergoing ultrasound and radiographic examinations, assist procedures when necessary, and ensure health and safety and infection control is adhered to. 

As a Clinical Imaging Assistant, you will help to prepare and reassure patients prior to and during their procedures. You will need good communication, interpersonal, and organisations skills. You should be someone  who is caring, reassuring, and calm in how you approach your work. You will also be responsible for ensuring the environment is safe, tidy, and meets a high standard of cleanliness. 

The contracted hours are Full Time 37.5 hours per week across 7 days. You will be on a shift rota at our Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage the patient flow of outpatients and inpatients attending for radiological examinations which can involve highly sensitive and distressing situations, for example, early pregnancy clinic. 
  • To provide emotional support to all patients on the procedures that are to be performed. Use judgement and skills to make necessary allowances for patients where there may be barriers to understanding such as language, disabilities, young children and their parents.
  • To assist professional staff during imaging procedures.
  • To ensure a clean and safe working environment for both patients and staff and be familiar and comply with the Trust’s infection control and hand hygiene policy.
  • To ensure effective communication between different staff members and patients and promote the Trust’s CARES values. To comply and observe Trust and departmental policies and procedures and take personal responsibility to ensure up to date knowledge of all these.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions as required by the Trust.
  • The frequent movement of equipment and transfer of patients on chairs, beds and trolleys; especially those requiring assistance, which involves moderate physical effort several times during a shift. 
  • Assist patients to get changed or use the toilet facilities if required, ensuring their personal hygiene and dignity is maintained.
