Band 7 (Fixed Term Contract 12 Months from April 2026)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Hillingdon Hospitals Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Team on The Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit.

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled Physiotherapist who is passionate about working within the area of Neurological Rehabilitation. The Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit provides level 2 specialist Neuro Rehabilitation for patients from NW London with acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.   

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for a varied and complex clinical caseload and the supervision of junior staff. You will lead the day-to-day delivery of the physiotherapy service on Alderbourne Neurological Rehabilitation Unit and be actively involved in patient treatment, goal setting, discharge planning and contribute to service development projects.

You must demonstrate excellent team working, a high level of communication skills within a multidisciplinary environment and want to continue to develop within the specialist area of Neurological Rehabilitation.

 

The successful candidate will:

-Gain experience and skill in treating complex neurological patients with a variety of neurological conditions, within an efficient and clinically effective physiotherapy service.

- Work within an established multidisciplinary neurological therapy team and develop close links within Northwest London Services across the patient pathway.

We are looking for candidates who:

Have HCPC registration.

Have NHS experience at Band 6 level, including experience and established skills within neurological rehabilitation. Ideally you will have experience treating patients with acquired brain injuries due to various aetiologies, and patients with spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to graduate level or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC Registration
  • MSc or evidence of Equivalent Experience and/or Postgraduate training in Neurological or Stroke specialist field.
  • Appropriate staff management /leadership training
  • Clinical Educators course
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Band 6 neurological rehabilitation experience in NHS (in-patient setting) including respiratory skills
  • Significant demonstrable Band 6 experience in Neurological Rehabilitation and Stroke with a variety of neuro conditions
  • Knowledge and evidence of understanding of the rehabilitation process
  • Demonstrates previous experience by way of CPD portfolio.
  • Use of PT and Multi-disciplinary outcome measures and goal setting
  • Evidence of effective working in MDT setting
  • Evidence of development & supervision of staff and students.
  • Evidence of participation in service development programmes.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and other current drivers & guidelines affecting practice.
  • Highly specialist skills in the treatment and management of patients with neurological disability
  • Specialist clinical skills including:  Spasticity management  Normal movement approach  Knowledge of other treatment approaches  Use of orthotics  Splinting skills
  • Evidence of good leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance on advanced clinical courses relevant to the field e.g. Bobath course
  • Membership of ACPIN Special interest group
  • Management / leadership qualification
  • Band 7 experience
  • Other experience in a Physical setting.
  • Experience in other neurological areas (e.g neuro-outpatients/SCI/ESD)
  • Experience of complex postural management and equipment
  • Knowledge of FIM/FAM and UKROC
  • Experience of operational management
