An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Therapy Services at Hillingdon Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious, caring and motivated Physiotherapy Assistant to join our friendly team who work in our Neurological Rehabiliation Team on The Alderbourne Rehabiliation Unit.

Assistants work as part of our team and have a key role to play in the smooth running of our service and the rehabilitation of patients, assisting them reach their full potential and helping them get back home.

Following an induction period, you will be expected to progress to managing a caseload of your own patients including practicing safe stair-climbing, walking practice, exercise programmes and provision/progression of walking aids. There will also be a requirement to do some administrative tasks, monitoring of stock and reduction of infection risk by cleaning and maintenance of some equipment. You will be an integral part of a supportive, friendly team which includes qualified physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other assistants.

Main duties of the job

There will be frequent opportunities for close working with the physiotherapy and occupational therapy team during which you will assist with the manual handling of patients. Our integrated therapy teams offer great opportunities for joint working with our Therapy colleagues, and you will be able to build good relationships with other key multidisciplinary team members and ward staff.

Hours of work: 8.15 am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

You would be expected to work in a flexible manner to support the team in meeting the changing needs of patients, the therapy service, and your colleagues.

We are looking for a person who has enthusiasm for working with people who have a variety of complex needs. You will have good communication, organisation and time management skills as well as the ability to motivate yourself and others.

You must have a relevant technical qualification e.g. NVQ III or City and Guilds in a related field with relevant and recent experience.

  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience
  • Willingness to undertake relevant departmental training in order to achieve required clinical competencies
  • Experience of working as part of a health or other multidisciplinary team, ideally in a neurological rehab setting
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant related field (e.g. access to healthcare)
  • Evidence of vocational study or further education
