This is an exciting time to join The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as the MRI Modality Lead Radiographer.

This position would suit a qualified and experienced MRI Radiographer capable and willing to work to the highest standards. They will be part of a team which supports each other and takes pride in delivering excellent patient care.

The post holder will be a strong communicator with resilience to ensure patient safety, quality, access, and a positive patient and carer experience is upheld. They will be understanding of the importance of working with a multidisciplinary team and how different parts of the system impact on each other. They will be calm and decisive in times of escalation, supporting the team to deliver an excellent MRI service.

They will be working with a strong and responsive radiology team with an outstanding record of compliance with MRI safety standards, diagnostic performance and delivering a wide range of advanced practice roles.

The Radiology Department hosts student radiographers with a commitment to delivering high quality teaching. It actively supports and encourages career development at all levels including Assistant Practitioner and Advanced Practice.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the organisation, planning, management and delivery of a comprehensive and effective MRI imaging service, including managing the MRI waiting lists and provide weekly reports/KPI’s for review

To lead a team of radiographers to produce high quality scans in accordance with MRI safety standards and departmental protocols/procedures.

To line manage staff including attendance management, personal development and disciplinary investigations.

To work in conjunction with other Modality leads to manage day to day operations and staff rota.

To provide professional support for staff and contribute towards the development of plans to improve patient care within current professional and legal standards, national and local policies.

To constantly monitor the effectiveness of the departmental protocols and procedures and, when necessary, using audit outcomes or research from internal or external sources to initiate new protocols and procedures.

Responsible for the training and development of radiographers, student radiographers and radiology clinical imaging assistants.

To maintain equipment to the highest safety standards and support development of the MRI services

To provide clinical and technical advice to staff

Always conduct a professional manner and show empathy, compassion and dignity towards the service users

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration
  • DCR/BSc in radiography
  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • Previous organisational experience
  • Awareness of all legislation relevant to the post
  • Excellent communication. Ability to pass on knowledge to others in a clear and concise way.
  • Empathic and able to deal sensitively with patients from all cultural backgrounds
  • Possess an enquiring approach to work. Be proactive in suggesting ways of working
  • Able to work under pressure and to deal with stressful situations.
  • Minimum of 5 years post qualification in MRI
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in MRI
  • Participation in clinical audit
