Job overview

We want to recruit an energetic and innovative Senior Clinical fellow to join our existing rheumatologists to support direct clinical care and other key clinical management activities such as audit, teaching, appraisal, clinical governance and service development. It is expected that the post holder will participate in the active audit programme in the department and keep up with continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The Hillingdon Hospital provides a general Rheumatology service for the people of Hillingdon.  The department started in April 2002. This is a full time post focused on the Rheumatology outpatient setting. Clinical commitments will be no less than two outpatient clinics per week. In addition, there will be a requirement to provide ward cover for rheumatology. There are two rheumatology specialist nurses at Hillingdon hospital, who runs clinics alongside those of the existing rheumatologist.  They carry out the preliminary work up for patients recommended for biological or targeted synthetic therapies and escalate csDMARD, bDMARD and tsDMARD therapies to achieve remission.

There are weekly radiology meetings with one of the musculoskeletal radiologists.

Secretarial and clerical / administrative support is provided by two patient pathway coordinators. The Postholder will have access to IT and office accommodation. No on call work is envisaged.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and hold a licence to practice
  • MRCP part 1 and part 2 or equivalent (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrate specialty expertise in Rheumatology
  • At least 2 years previous experience in acute and outpatient based rheumatology with good knowledge of the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases
