Full Time: 37.5 hours per week

The SLT team at Hillingdon Hospitals are looking for an enthusiastic band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive adult in-patient service. 

If you want to develop your knowledge, skills and experience in the acute, stroke and neurorehabilitation settings, this post will offer a variety of caseload experience and professional development opportunities, including completion of the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner framework, in-house dysphagia competency training and opportunity to assist in Videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics.

 

Main duties of the job

This role is split between our acute, stroke and neuro-rehabilitation caseloads and requires regular, joint multidisciplinary team working. There will be opportunities to gain experience across acute and rehabilitation settings including opportunities to provide regular teaching and training to nurses, medics and other AHPs.

The post holder will be required to provide specialist assessment and treatment along the various clinical pathways including neurorehabilitation, stroke, care of the elderly, general medicine, respiratory and trauma. The post holder will work as part of the SLT team and wider MDT and will be supported and supervised by a Specialist SLT as well as the Clinical Lead SLT.

You will receive regular clinical supervision, monthly CPD sessions, peer support and evidence-based practice sessions provided by our very supportive team.

About us

Our exceptional team consists of 8 Speech & Language Therapists across the acute and rehabilitation wards. We are a joint SLT and Dietetics Department, directly managed by a Dietetics and Speech Therapy Services Manager.  Our department has achieved Trust wide recognition for the services we provide.

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration
  • RCSLT registration
  • Recognised degree in Speech & Language Therapy
  • Under graduate or post graduate experience with dysphagia within a range of caseloads
  • Under graduate or post graduate experience with acquired communication disorders
  • Under graduate or post graduate experience with dysphagia assessment and management
  • Undergraduate or post graduate experience with assessment and intervention of a range of communication impairments
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of training / practical experience encompassing the clinical skills required for the role
  • Member of a special interest group
