A vacancy has arisen for a part time Therapy Technical Instructor within the Therapies outpatient department at Hillingdon Hospital.

The post-holder will assist a friendly team of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and administrative staff as required. They will work mainly in the Outpatient Gymnasium but may be required to help out in other areas such as the elective orthopaedic ward if needed.

The post holder will undertake both clinical and non clinical duties as well as administrative duties, and may carry their own case-load of patients as required, under supervision from qualified staff. 

You will be required to be flexible and professional, and willing to participate in continuing learning and development of competencies.

Training in patient handling skills, of often heavily dependent patients, access to the Trust’s electronic notes system, and specific skills relating to Physiotherapy will be provided, although previous experience in this field and interest in Physiotherapy is desirable.

You will enjoy communicating with patients with differing needs, with relatives and carers, and with other professionals, both face to face and on the telephone.

Main duties of the job

To be able to run and lead a range of classes including post op hip and knee classes, Hydrotherapy class as appropriate to role, and also be able to work alongside other team members to co-run other outpatient classes as needed.

The post holder will carry responsibility for designated administrative tasks and data entry, to ensure the smooth running of the Physiotherapy Department.

Assessing and providing mobility aids as appropriate, ensuring that the individual aids are safe to use, and the patients are competent in their use of them.

Being responsible for the preparation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment and the safe delivery of therapy programmes. This will involve moving and handling of patients, equipment, wheelchairs and furniture as needed.

To be able to monitor stock levels and order replacement stock / equipment when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

 

  • To assist physiotherapists / occupational therapists in the assessment, treatment, and management of both outpatients and inpatients including musculoskeletal outpatients and inpatient Orthopaedic ward.

 

  • To provide both clinical, non clinical and administrative support to qualified physiotherapy staff. 

 

  • To implement and progress agreed planned treatment programmes.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

  • To assist therapists in the delivery of the therapy service in a variety of in or outpatient settings.

 

  • To work without direct supervision, and after appropriate training, within specified clinical areas, undertaking patient assessment, planning, implementing and progressing rehabilitation programmes and interventions delegated by a qualified therapist.

 

  • To act as first contact with patients, in certain situations, and carry own caseload.

 

  • To assist in the assessment of patients’ rehabilitation needs , where appropriate.

 

  • To undertake data entry of patient activity onto the Trust’s Electronic Notes System
