Consultant Psychologist and Professional Lead for Sutton CAMHS

Main duties of the job
The Consultant Psychologists and Professional Lead will be responsible for co-ordination of the below, and leadership oversight in relation to the Sutton SPA, the Tier 2 provision in Sutton and Merton
· Clinical delivery including assessment, intervention, consultation and training
· Clinical Governance systems, including; safe and effective practice, demand and capacity management and supervision of staff
· Liaison with the relevant staff in the local authority, voluntary sector partners and education partners, to ensure close multi-agency working.
· Supervision and oversight of Psychology and Psychotherapies provision across Place

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To lead in the development and the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology and psychotherapy service to children and young people.
· To work autonomously within professional guidelines and to exercise delegated responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological and psychotherapy practice.
· To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all psychologists and psychotherapists, and to support the CAMHS Head of Psychology and Psychotherapies in ensuring that all children and young people receive high quality psychological therapies.
· To establish and maintain clear systems for effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs.
· To carry out audit, policy, service development and research activities relevant to a designated area of service.
· In collaboration with the Senior Management Team, to develop and implement policy and practice within a designated area of service.
· In collaboration with the Senior Management Team, to propose and implement service developments within CAMHS.
· To lead on areas of quality improvement and service development delegated by the CAMHS Head of Psychology and Psychotherapies.
· To lead on liaison with adult services psychology and psychotherapy staff to ensure good transition processes are in place.
· To provide clinical work to the highest standards of practice. To provide guidance regarding formulation where children and young people’s needs are particularly complex.
· To have up-to-date knowledge of research relating to a wide range of presentations and disorders in children and young people.
· To contribute to the development of CAMHS Services regionally and nationally.
Person specification
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Post qualification training in the clinical supervision of trainees
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant, demonstrable and evidenced experience of working as a qualified psychologist in child and adolescent mental health services including significant post-qualification experience within the designated specialty where the post is located.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of the application of psychology and psychotherapy in different cultural contexts.
- Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified psychotherapists and clinical psychologists.
- Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty.
