Job overview
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult Community SLT service in Brent, a vibrant, multicultural borough in North West London.
Based at the Willesden Centre for Health & Care and Wembley Centre for Health & Care, you’ll work across outpatient and domiciliary settings, supporting adults with a wide range of complex communication and swallowing needs, including progressive neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job
This Band 6 role sits within the Adult Community SLT team in Brent.
You’ll manage your own caseload across domiciliary and outpatient settings, supporting adults with communication and swallowing needs, many of whom speak English as an additional language.
You’ll assess and treat clients in their homes, clinics, care homes, and community sites, with access to VFS/FEES as needed.
You’ll work closely with the local MDT, contribute to rehab ward input at Willesden Centre if required, and supervise junior staff. Regular supervision and professional development opportunities are embedded in the role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As an autonomous practitioner, you’ll provide person-centred care and lead on assessment, therapy, and specialist advice for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties.
You’ll collaborate with referrers, families, carers, and colleagues across health, social care, and voluntary sectors to deliver effective interventions and integrated care plans.
You’ll also contribute to clinical governance, audits, QI, and service development. Training others on SLT best practice is part of the role. You’ll receive regular supervision and CPD, and support the development of the Brent SLT team by supervising students and junior colleagues.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
- Registration with HCPC
- Registration with relevant professional body
- Dysphagia competent
Desirable criteria
- Registration with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of further study e.g. postgraduate degree, short courses relating to community setting
Experience
Essential criteria
- Management of neurological and long term conditions
- Assessment & treatment of complex clients with speech, language, communication needs and dysphagia
- Working with carers & MDT
- Writing reports and maintaining case notes
- Delivering and evaluating training
- Management of own caseload
- Applying the principals of research methodology through clinical audit
- Developing reflective clinical practice in self
Desirable criteria
- Member of a relevant CEN
- Experience of working in acute and community settings as well as in nursing homes.
- Experience of supervising junior members of staff
- Stammering training
- LSVT training
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of assessment tools relating the neurological/community client group with speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs.
- Knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relating to the neurological/community client group with speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs
- Demonstration of good analytical and reflection skills

Desirable criteria
- Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
