Job overview
The post holder will assist staff in the delivery of non-clinical care.
The post holder will ensure tidiness, cleanliness, effective stock control and equipment
The post holder will provide a meet and greet function from Whittaker reception for service users, carers and visitors to the Whittaker Unit
The post holder will support the Multi-Disciplinary Team in maintaining a safe clinical environment and participate in service audits as required.
The post holder will provide basic clerical support where necessary and in the absence of administration staff.
The post holder will support the clinical team in maintaining the nutritional needs of the patients.
Main duties of the job
• To maintain high standards of general cleanliness and tidiness of the Whittaker Suite and replacement of fabric and furniture as required, liaising with the domestic staff and organising spot cleaning and terminal cleaning as necessary
• Working within the role of the Infection Control Champion, as directed by the Trust infection Control including taking the lead on the 6 monthly handwashing audits with all staff within the Whittaker Suite
• The completion of the weekly infection control audits/cleaning schedule and report to the shift coordinator manager any issues. Ensure all hospital bays areas of the Suite meet requirements of the Infection Control Policy and National Cleaning Standards as set out by the Trust.
• To ensure that all stock levels are maintained and sufficient to meet hospital demands. To contribute to cost effective control of medical, surgical and food
items.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Ensure the dietary needs of patients are addressed following nursing direction and to liaise with the Catering Department about dietary supplies, supplements and special needs whilst ensuring meal provision is maintained to the highest standard. This includes collection of menu cards and the preparation of the lunch trolley in advance
• To ensure hot/cold drinks and snacks are available as required for Service Users
attending the Day Unit
• To maintain and monitor equipment as “fit for use” including equipment within the kitchens and Treatment room
• To maintain effective liaison and communication with the following services to ensure service level agreements are achieved:
• Estates/Maintenance
• Distribution contacts
• Domestic Services
• Infection Control Nurse
• Stock suppliers via the Whittaker Day Unit administrator
• As and when necessary carry out general office clerical duties – answering the telephone taking messages communicating with patients and visitors.
• Providing a presence in the reception area at scheduled times in order to provide signposting and guidance to Service Users and visitors attending the Whittaker Suite

Essential criteria
- NVQ Health / Community Care Level 2 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Health and Safety Course

Experience
Essential criteria
- Working within a health care setting with people suffering with mental illness.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with vulnerable people
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good understanding of Adult care
- Knowledge of housekeeping duties
- Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the Health and Safety
- Knowledge of current policy and guidance in relation to infection control.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues
- Basic understanding of the principles of how patients achieve maximum potential

Work Related Circumstances

- Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
