Our Female Wards are very complex and busy, so the provision of support towards the staff on the Ward supplements our critical services to our patients. 

If you want to gain experience, improve your job prospects, or just want to give some of your time to help others, this volunteering role could be for you!

Main duties of the job

This role is to provide practical support for our ward staff on our Female In-Patient Wards.

What the role involves:

•  Maintaining the organisation of the staff room and other staff communal areas
• Making refreshments for staff, when needed
• Photocopying and other basic, non-confidential admin tasks
• Help with preparing bedrooms for new patients
• Being a supporting listener for our staff on shift
• Supporting the organising of therapeutic equipment or helping to tidy up

DBS Level for this role is:  Standard

 The knowledge, skills and attributes required for the role:

• Experience/knowledge/interest in mental health.
• Experience of working within mental health.

•           An empathetic and caring nature

• Good organisation skills
• Punctuality and reliability

To maintain the health, safety, privacy, dignity and wellbeing of everyone, all volunteers are required to:

·       Attend our initial volunteer training and keep up to date with the training.

·       Maintain the confidentiality of patients, their visitors and staff

·       Adhere to relevant polices.

·       Undertake a local induction.

• Attend regular supervision with your named supervisor.
• Report any concerns to your supervisor or other staff member

Please note: To meet our Trust’s safeguarding obligations applicants for this volunteer role must be aged 18 or over.

Volunteer Recruitment

Applying to become a volunteer may seem a little daunting for some people however, the volunteer service is here to guide and support you through the process.

Please be aware that due to the robust process, recruitment can sometimes take a few weeks.

Throughout the process you will have informal meetings with us and the service where you will be volunteering. In addition to this we will require you to:

• Complete an identity (ID)
• Complete a Disclosure and Barring Service* (DBS) Check,
• Complete an Occupational health assessment
• Give details for two references
• Complete relevant training.

DBS checks for volunteers are free and the level of check is dependent on the role you are undertaking.
