Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join our Musculoskeletal Outpatient Service in a split Specialist MSK/Pain Physiotherapy role. You will be either an experienced band 6, or an existing band 7, looking to progress your career and specialise in this area. 

You should have extensive experience and evidence of skills and training required for a band 7 MSK/pain post.  You will be able to demonstrate evidence of excellent bio-psychosocial assessment skills and the outstanding communication skills required to successfully deliver pain management interventions. 

The MSK team has close links with the Bury Integrated Pain Service, a multi-disciplinary pain service, and you will receive training and support from peers and Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners within that service.

The job plan for this role is typically based on 80% clinical and 20% SPA time which will enable you to develop your teaching, research, and quality improvement skills.

Main duties of the job

Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment of patients with complex pain conditions. Specialist assessment of patients with a variety of musculoskeletal presentations, Delivery of individualised MSK and pain management interventions, Management of a complex caseload of patients with both acute and chronic conditions Support Operational leads with workforce planning and recruitment Work closely with Operational Leads on the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the service. Contribute to service development, research, and audit within the specialism. Provide teaching, training, supervision and support for junior staff and students.

  • Must be HCPC registered

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of acute and chronic pain and the principles of Physiotherapy interventions in pain management.
  • Good working knowledge of clinical governance including knowledge of clinical guidance for relevant conditions.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge/Involvement in project working

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Group facilitation, presentation and educational skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post-registration clinical experience in long term condition management.
  • Experience of using biopsychosocial consultation skills in the management of complex patients
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience undertaking band 7 role
  • Research and Development experience
