Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our highly supportive, friendly, and forward- thinking Speech and Language Therapy team, as an assistant in our targeted service pathway.

We are seeking a full-time assistant eager to develop skills working holistically with a varied paediatric caseload within schools, nurseries and clinics across Bury.  

You will work as part of the paediatric speech and language therapy  team to support assessment and interventions for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs

As an assistant  you will be supporting the team in ensuring that our service users’ speech, language and communication needs are met through the delivery of high-quality person-centred care.

You will be provided with robust supervision and personal development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Support registered professionals in the assessment of speech, language and communication needs, and delivery of interventions, ensuring high standards of patient care

Be responsible for managing their own caseload, following agreed pathways of treatment

Undertake a range of delegated tasks both clinical and non-clinical 

Undertake and interpret findings from a basic communication screen

Create and deliver session plans within a framework set out by the SLT

Maintain appropriate communication with clients, carers, families and professional colleagues 

Assist in the provision of support and guidance to clients, families and carers and education team

Maintain accurate, clear, concise and contemporaneous records as per trust policy and communicate information to members of the team as necessary

Participate in the evaluation of service provision through clinical audit, outcome measures, performance indicators and review of patient experience information

Participate in the training of under-graduate speech and language therapy students and other students

Essential criteria
  • Good general education to GCSE level or equivalent with relevant clinical experie
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with relevant clinical experience
  • Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Speech & Language Therapy Assistant OR minimum 2.5 years’ experience in health, therapeutic, rehabilitation and / or social care setting.
  • Previous experience of support work with children and / or young people with speech, language and communication needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Demonstrates evidence based clinical knowledge and clinical skills
  • IT skills
  • Be an effective team member who is able to relate to colleagues at all levels of the Trust with tact and diplomacy
  • Effective organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, to motivate and enable and to be sensitive to diverse individual needs.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and work without direct supervision
