Consultant in Respiratory medicine

The post holder will lead, compliment and develop asthma care within the Bury, Rochdale and Salford Locality.
The post provides an opportunity to develop the difficult asthma pathway and ensure timely and appropriate care to patients in the Bury and HMR locality which is currently lacking. The postholder will input to local, shared and regional asthma MDT’s.
Triage, virtual and outpatient review of general respiratory referrals
In addition, they will contribute to the Consultant rota covering the Fairfield ARCU (acute respiratory care unit) which has 26 beds including up to 4 level 1.5 beds and has the capability to provide high flow nasal oxygen, CPAP and BiPAP.
The post also General medical on call at Fairfiled hospital 1 in 11 weekends and approximately one weekday evening post take round and on call every month.

Provide respiratory Consultant input to the acute respiratory ward on a consultant of the week rota

To participate in development of guidelines and best practice together with involvement in clinical audits such

NRAP and NCEPOD and explore research opportunities as appropriate.

Registration and qualifications

- Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice
- Hold MRCP or equivalent qualification
- Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
- Registration on the GMC Specialist Register-CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
- Primary medical qualification (e.g. MB, ChB)

- Appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Knowledge, skills, training and experience

- Clinical experience in Respiratory Medicine and a broad knowledge of General Medicine
- Broad experience in the management of all aspects of Respiratory Medicine
- Good understanding of Clinical Governance
- Understanding of research methodologies and commitments
- Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change

- Publication of research articles, relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report – not abstracts or letters)
