Job overview

Fairfield General Hospital hosts one of two Primary Stroke Centres (PSC), in Greater Manchester (Fairfield General and Stepping Hill Hospitals) operating within the top 10 percentile of SSNAP data within the UK.

All Stroke patients, with a population of 700k with an estimate admitting cohort of c.900 patients per annum will pass through the PSC. Fairfield General Hospital provides hyper acute, acute (Ward 4/5) and rehabilitation services (Ward 20 and 21) to the population.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to provide in-patient and outpatient stroke care whilst exercising considerable autonomy, while remaining responsible to the clinical lead and responsive to the varying needs of the department and its staff.

Contribute to the provision of acute stroke specialist service delivering thrombolysis and other specialist treatments.

The post holder will provide ongoing clinical support to the community stroke services within the Northern Care Alliance.

Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have experience in working within stroke services
  • Must be qualified to consultant level
  • Experience of teaching and training medical undergraduates, postgraduates and other health professionals
  • Extensive knowledge of Stroke Medicine, including other medical specialities
  • Clear evidence of organisational and Leadership skills
  • Clinical Governance understanding
  • Good Practice in Research training within last 2 years

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification (eg. MBChB)
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) or equivalent in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric medicine, Neurology or Stroke medicine (or entry expected within six months of interview date).
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at a Deanery Teaching the Teachers or similar training in education
